Despite the cost of living crisis, Brits are not being hit with the highest charges in the world for a range of goods and services, according to new research. 

While costs of childcare, rent and cigarettes are among the most expensive in the world, there are still places which are worse off. 

A bottle of beer, according to research from Numbeo, Compare the Market and Expensivity, will set back someone in the UK on average £4.71, compared with £4.75 in the United States. 

Instagram influencers in Qatar will have to hand over £8.89 while people in South Africa will pay £1.33. 

For cigarettes, it is a similar situation. 20 Marlboro in the UK are around £13, compared with 38p in Nigeria. ns, however have to pay £22.55. 

Petrol is another area where Britons can feel exploited with a litre of unleaded on average £1.54, double the price in the United States. 

Whereas, in Libya, a litre of fuel is 2p, while anyone seeking to sit in Hong Kong's gridlock will see their wallets empty each time they fill their car at £2.36 per litre. 

For childcare, Britons pay on average £1,239 a month compared with £21.68 in Sri Lanka. 

While milk in Jamaica is more than twice as expensive as it is in the UK, with Caribbean residents paying £2.66 a litre compared with £1.23 here. 

The Swiss also top the chart for a three course meal for two in an average restaurant - costing £106,compared with £60 in the UK. 

The Swiss are also the most expensive for cinema tickets, running shoes and public transport. 

Even for a simple loaf of bread, Britons pay midway between the most expensive and the cheapest, handing over on average £1.21 compared with £2.80 in the Untied States or 12p in Algeria.
