Former Proud Boys Chairman Enrique Tarrio says he plans to run for public office.
Tarrio was sentenced in September 2023 to serve 22 years in prison after he was convicted of seditious conspiracy for his role in the January 6 attack – even though he was not present at the Capitol that day.
His sentence was cut short last month after President Donald Trump signed an executive order pardoning all January 6 prisoners and those convicted of crimes related to offenses the day.
And just two weeks later, Tarrio was among the guests of honor during a Reagan Tribute event at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday.
‘It’s been a great two weeks,’ Tarrio told Newsmax host Greg Kelly in a Thursday interview.
‘Two weeks ago I was in prison and just last night I was in Mar-a-Lago at the president’s house,’ he added.
He then previewed his potential upcoming run for office – admitting he was not sure exactly the position he plans to run for.

‘Last time I was on, I told you that I was gonna take some time, and I was going to really think about what I was going to do,’ Tarrio said. ‘And I think my future is in politics.’
‘I think I’m gonna take a serious look at running for office at some point in 2026 or 2028, and I believe that there is a path for that because it is my passion,’ he concluded.
Tarrio, who was chairman of the Proud Boys at the time of the Capitol attack, said he would neither ‘support’ nor ‘condemn’ the riot. The far-right activist did insist, however, that he did not ‘sympathize’ with lawmakers who were terrified in their offices that day.
At least 37 members of the Proud Boys were arrested, charged or indicted for alleged roles in the Capitol riot by January 2022. By then, Tarrio was no longer a leader of the group.
He served as chairman from 2018 to 2021.
The House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack subpoenaed Tarrio to testify in November 2021 and in February 2022, he gave a deposition to the committee investigators and two members.

Roger Stone, who has ties to Proud Boys, also gave a speech at the Reagan Tribute event at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday.
The former Trump adviser was sentenced to 40 months in prison in 2019 but just days before he was scheduled to report to prison in July 2020 Trump commuted his sentence.
He fully pardoned Stone in December 2020, just one month before leaving office after his first term.
