A man was pulled to safety by a rescue crew when his car became submerged after plummeting into a D.C. river on Christmas.
The unidentified man was left in critical condition after his car plunged into the water near the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C.
Officials said they responded to an emergency report around 1:55 pm Monday that there was a vehicle in the water near the 11th Street Bridge.
Rescue teams set out to rescue the man by deploying fire boats and a dive team.
Eventually, the crew were able to pull the man out of the submerged vehicle, WJLA reported.

The man was immediately taken to hospital upon his rescue with life-threatening injuries that left him in critical condition.
It’s unclear why the car went into the river.
While he was being taken to the hospital, the rescue team conducted a secondary search of the vehicle and surrounding area.
By 2:20 pm, the three rescue divers and two rescue swimmers emerged from the river for ‘decontamination and rehab,’ the DC Fire and EMS department wrote in a post on X.
‘Update water rescue Anacostia River below 11th St Bridge SE. 3 rescue divers & 2 rescue swimmers from DC Fire & EMS entered the water, locating & removing 1 adult victim from the vehicle.
‘All are out of the river for decontamination & rehab. #DCsBravest,’ the post said.
A series of dramatic images of the heroes accompanied the update – where rescues were pictured in full diver suits, complete with oxygen tanks and helmets, as they set out on their mission.
No cause of the incident has been determined and it remains under investigation.

This rescue came just days after another individual died after his vehicle became submerged in water in another Washington, D.C., river.
Divers pulled the man from a car submerged in the Potomac River on Friday, Fox 5 D.C. reported.
Emergency services responded to a report at the area along Rock Creek Parkway beneath the Arlington Memorial Bridge where the vehicle was found in the water.
After being pulled from the water – the man was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Divers surveyed the water under the bridge and near the shoreline for other victims but didn’t discover anyone else, officials said.
