An American living in Britain has slammed Greggs after visiting the bakery for the first time.
Tyler James Sonson, who works in London, was unimpressed with the pastries at the popular chain and even said one item ‘looked like cat food’.
The American started his scathing review by quipping: ‘I apologise in advance to all the Brits out there’.
He then said: “My initial reaction to the steak bake was that it looked like some sort of ‘mystery meat’ or cat food.
‘It continued to go downhill from there. Instead of juicy, flavorful beef, the filling tasted uninspired and too gelatinous.
‘The pastry was soggy and far from the flaky, buttery layers you would expect from a Greggs baked good. It’s definitely not for me!’
Summarising how unimpressed he was with the chain’s steak bake pastry, he gave it a below-par score of just two out of five.
It was also far from the only item that left a bad taste, labelling the chain’s sausage roll as ‘very bland’.
He was no more complementary when reviewing its vegan counterpart, which he observed ‘tasted artificial’ and comparing it to Pax sage and onion stuffing.
Tyler had a similarly disdainful take reserved for the outlet’s offering of pepperoni pizza, which he said ‘was [his] worst nightmare…leaving [him] sick to [his] stomach.
However, it was not all doom and gloom for his take on the beloved British chain, as he hailed a slice of Tottenham cake for tasting ‘comforting’ and reminding him of the similar Betty Crocker cake, a yellow sponge widely available in the United States.
It comes after an American woman living in the UK gave her verdict on Greggs after her boyfriend ‘made her’ try an item from the chain for the very first time.
Posting to Instagram in collaboration with her boyfriend Alex, who is from Preston, Lancashire, Tay filmed herself while trying the bakery’s much-loved chicken bake.
Diving straight in to begin the video, Tay asked her boyfriend as she took a bite of it: ‘And what was this one? What did it have in it?’
Alex said: ‘It’s got bake and chicken in it.
‘You know what chicken is. You understand the concept of baking something, right?
‘As opposed to frying it or boiling it. If it were boiled it would be called a chicken boil.
Giving her verdict on, Tay could be seen nodding her head in approval as she made her way through the snack, exclaiming: ‘It’s so good!’
Taken aback by how hot it was, Tay could be seen burning her mouth as she took another bite of the pastry.
Alex replied: ‘Yeah, that’s how you have Greggs. Hot. Otherwise it’s cold and s***’.
Giving her verdict on the chain overall, Tay was impressed by its value, as the pair purchased two chicken bakes and a sausage roll for £5.
