On the heels of his huge success as writer, director and producer of A Quiet Place and the sequel A Quiet Place Part II, John Krasinski takes another huge step as a filmmaker with his latest creation, IF, which stands for Imaginary Friends.

And on Thursday the first trailer dropped for the upcoming film that’s a mix of both live action and an animated fantasy comedy.

This go around the former star of the hit mockumentary sitcom The Office has enlisted a bevy of A-list stars that begins with Krasinski, himself, along with Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Bobby Moynihan and Liza Colón-Zayas, who all serve as part of the live-action cast.

The cast serving as the voice roles are Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina and Vince Vaughn.

Off the top of the teaser, Krasinski poses an alternate reality: ‘What if everything you believed as a kid was real,’ all while The Man Upstairs (Reynolds) walks slowly and quietly through his daughter’s bedroom to avoid waking her up.

After interacting with one of those so-called Imaginary Friends, Blue (Carrel) reveals he’s an IF, better known within this world as an Imaginary Friend.

Blue and The Man Upstairs proceed to have a funny interaction where he tires to stop Blue from sneezing and waking up his daughter Bea (Fleming).

His efforts come up short and Blue ends up letting out a loud sneeze, but Bea wasn’t in bed sleeping, instead she was outside her home, looking up as The Man Upstairs hung just outside the bedroom window, due to the power of the sneeze.

Stunned to him hanging from the side of the house, Bea gets another shock of a lifetime when another of the animated characters makes her first appearance.

As time goes on Bea gains the ability to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been abandoned by the kids they helped.

The story goes on to follow Bea as she comes to grips with her newfound superpower and sets off on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.

IF, or Imaginary Friends, from by Paramount Pictures is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.S, on May 17, 2024.
