Queen rocker and environmentalist Sir Brian May is called a ‘hypocrite’ for flying on fuel-guzzling private jets… but the guitarist retorts that he needs luxury ‘creature comforts’ while on tour and offsets his carbon emissions

He was knighted for his charity work aimed at ‘protecting our precious planet’, while insisting humans ‘need to stop what we’re doing’.

But now Queen guitarist Sir Brian May has been branded a ‘hypocrite’ and forced to defend himself for travelling on a private jet while on tour.

Queen have set off on the Japanese leg of their worldwide Rhapsody Tour and Sir Brian, 76, insists they would not be able to continue to work at a ‘top level’ without the ‘creature comforts’ of a private jet.

He shared a video on Instagram of the plane in Japan, and revealed that one follower had branded him a ‘hypocrite’, which he took offence to, saying he always offsets his carbon emissions.

Sir Brian said: ‘Some people might take exception to us making ourselves comfortable on tour, but we take pride in working at the top level, which means taking every opportunity to work with the top professionals … from drivers, caterers, accommodation, to wardrobe, sound, lights, etc, and taking care of them all.

And truly at the age of 76-odd, doing 2hrs 20mins shows and travelling most days, it would be pretty hard to do this all without these creature comforts.’
