Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken was ordered to leave a beach in the Hamptons after violating closures put in place for Hurricane Erin.

The 63-year-old was spotted relaxing on a beach chair on Georgica Beach on Thursday in the ritzy area of Long Island when he was approached by a beach patrol.

The former diplomat, who was trying to enjoy the sands alongside a friend, quickly packed up his things after seemingly being asked to leave.

Blinken quickly grabbed a tote bag, cooler, and beach chair before making his way away from the water. Daily Mail has approached his representative for comment.

As Hurricane Erin approaches the East Coast of the US, beach closures have been brought into place across the majority of the coast.

The storm was forecast to cause possible coastal flooding into the weekend along the East Coast but was also expected to gradually lose strength.

New York state had issued advice earlier in the week from steering clear of beaches and the water due to high levels and rip currents.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported early Friday that Erin had weakened to a Category 1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph.

It had moved to around 425 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Novia Scotia, after having thankfully threading the needle between the East Coast and several islands.

Nantucket’s airport recorded winds hitting as high as 45 mph overnight and into Friday.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced Friday that it was canceling ferry service to and from several Boston area cities.

Several oceanside beaches along Cape Cod´s National Seashore also closed to swimmers and other recreation due to high surf and rip currents.

The NWS issued coastal flood warnings for places as far north as the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts, saying that some roads could be made impassable.

Tens of thousands were evacuated earlier this week from the most vulnerable barrier islands in North Carolina as storm surges of up to 4 feet threatened the region.

The central Outer Banks faced the brunt of the storm, with waves up to 20 feet and surges of 2 to 4 feet overwhelming some islands.

On Thursday night firefighters rescued more than 50 people from cars, restaurants and bars after tidal flooding in Margate City, New Jersey.

Beaches were closed to swimming Thursday in New York City, but more than a dozen surfers still rode waves at Rockaway Beach in Queens.

Erin has fluctuated in intensity since forming nearly a week ago but remained unusually large, stretching across more than 600 miles.

The hurricane center was also watching three tropical disturbances far out in the Atlantic.

With thousands of miles of warm ocean water, hurricanes known as Cape Verde storms are some of the most dangerous to North America.
