A woman charged with the murder of her husband allegedly used an electric saw and knives to ‘butcher and dismember’ his body before disposing of his remains in rubbish bins.
NSW Police will allege Nirmeen Noufl, 53, cut up the body of 62-year-old Mamdouh Noufl before disposing of his remains in plastic bags at various residential and industrial sites across Sydney’s southwest.
An investigation into her husband’s disappearance began in July 2023 when police were called to a home in Juno Parade, in Greenacre, in Sydney’s west.
The 62-year-old small business owner had not been seen since May 2023 with police declaring his disappearance suspicious at the time.
Police will now allege it was on May 3 that Mr Noufl and his wife had a fight before she killed him.
The mother-of-eight was arrested at a hospital in Bankstown on Thursday afternoon and charged with murder DV. Police said they believe there was also a financial motive.
She was refused bail and was remanded in custody after fronting court on Friday.
Fresh details reveal the timing of Noufl’s arrest was crucial as she was deemed a flight risk and had an apparent interest in relocating to the middle east.
It’s alleged she had previously travelled to Egypt to sell properties and was in the process of purchasing shares in the United Arab Emirates.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty told a press conference on Saturday that the Greenacre home underwent a ‘significant clean-up’ and parts were re-floored.
He described the murder as ‘brutal’, ‘macabre’ and ‘bizarre’.
‘The remains have not been located and police doubt they will ever be located due to the nature in which they were disposed of,’ Supt Doherty said.
Supt Doherty said police would allege Noufl provided detectives with ‘various versions’ of the whereabouts of her husband.
She allegedly told her children, friends and family that Mr Noufl had flown to Egypt to visit family however family members were not able to locate or reach him.
Police will allege Noufl had allegedly taken over her husband’s phone and social media accounts ‘to disguise the fact that he had been killed’.
The victim’s bank accounts were also used until July 2023 when family friends of the couple reported the 62-year-old as missing, Supt Doherty said.
A friend told 9News Mr Noufl was a quiet man.
‘He was a very, very quiet person,’ he said, ‘(he was) smiley, very focused on his work.’
Mr Noufl’s mates raised the alarm three months after he was allegedly killed, with his friend revealing his disappearance had concerned him at the time.
‘I was very concerned, of course,’ he said
‘I thought inside that there must be something bad that for sure happened to him.’
The couple moved from Egypt to Sydney over 30 years ago and had lived in the Greenacre home for the last five to 10 years.
Supt Doherty said the couple’s eight adult children, aged in their 20s and 30s, are still ‘processing the information’ and are likely to be in distress.
The cause and manner of the victim’s death are still unknown but police will allege Noufl killed her husband ‘intentionally’.
Supt Doherty said the victim had had close ties to his community in western Sydney and had owned a small business until his death.
Noufl is due to return to Burwood Local Court on December 11.
Investigations under Strike Force Tannerie continue.
