A man’s body was found in a stormwater drain near a train station on Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the drain beside Waratah train station in Mayfield, north-western Newcastle, early on Tuesday morning.
Witnesses said about a dozen officers cordoned off an area surrounding the drain as investigators worked through the morning, The Newcastle Herald reported.
The body was reportedly removed after a ladder was lowered into the drain while traffic roared past on nearby Platt Street.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the man has not yet been identified.
The Police Transport Command will lead an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
