Shocking ring doorbell footage showed the moment a small Dachshund was viciously attacked and left shaken by a dangerous dog.

Ian McIntosh and his five-year-old companion Frank were returning from an afternoon walk when the large dog ran up behind them and snatched the small pet away from the owner – knocking him down in the process.

The shocking footage shows the aggressive dog hurtling towards the pair as they attempt to open their front door as the owner chases after the hound.

Ian can be seen looking fearfully behind him as the dog growls and floors the owner whilst attempting to injure the pooch by sinking its teeth into Frank’s neck and shaking him from side to side.

The owner can be heard screaming and pleading to ‘Let him go’ as he holds onto the still attached lead for dear life whilst he and the other dog’s owner attempt to wrestle Frank free.

After the savage attack which took place on December 21 – that happened in Mr McIntosh’s own front garden – the 62-year-old has been left to pay a staggering vet bill of £11,000.

The dangerous dog has been ‘slapped’ with a ‘dog behaviour order’ but Mr McIntosh said that is ‘not good enough’ and the pet ‘needs to be put to sleep’.

Describing the attack, Mr McIntosh from Southampton, Hants, said: ‘I had just gone on a walk with Frank and I was coming into my front garden.

‘I had seen the dog across the road but as I was coming up to my front door, I saw it run across.’

The Royal Mail worker said the attack happened at 03:20 pm and at the time there was ‘quite a lot of activity outside’ with ‘some kids playing football’.

He continued: ‘I saw it coming to my front door.

‘I had my back to the dog and I turned around and at that point, he knocked and banged into me when going for Frank so I lost my balance.

‘He picked Frank up and he shook him.’

Frank was dragged away from his owner, held in the mouth and shaken in the air.

At the time, the unsuspecting dachshund was still attached to his lead held by Mr McIntosh – who suffers from hemiplegia which causes paralysis to his right side.

He added: ‘I was in shock.

‘The whole thing was just completely unexpected, it only lasted about 20 seconds, but it could have been devastating.’

After the attack, Mr McIntosh went to the vet with the dangerous dog’s owner – who agreed to pay the initial £1,200 bill for Frank’s surgery.

Mr McIntosh said at first, the female owner said the dog needed to be put down but he believes she has since changed her mind.

He said: ‘The owner had come with me to the vet and she was talking about having it put down.

‘The next day when I spoke to her she said it was going to be muzzled. That’s not good enough, the dog needs to be put to sleep.

‘They must be keeping an eye on when I’m about because I haven’t actually seen any of the family since.

‘[Auhtorities] slapped a dog behaviour order on the family which means that the dog is not to be left alone and if it’s out, it’s got to be with a responsible adult – and it’s got to be muzzled.

‘Because of what I reported, I have had all these people come up to me and say ‘We have had trouble with this dog’.

Although Frank didn’t suffer any internal injury, his skin was badly punctured – resulting in a £6,500 vet bill which exceeded Ian’s insurance cover.

To make matters worse, a few weeks later Frank suffered a slipped disk in his back, causing his back legs to seize from working.

This added another £5,000 worth of medical treatment, skyrocketing Ian’s vet bills to over £11,000.

Although he can’t be certain whether the slipped disc was caused by the attack, Mr McIntosh said Frank’s excessive shaking afterwards ‘wouldn’t have helped’.

Unable to cover the full cost of the treatment himself, Mr McIntosh has launched a GoFundMe page, while he waits to see if his insurance claim will help cover any of the hefty costs.

He admitted that he is unsure what breed the dog is, but said neighbours have told him they believe it is ‘one of those banned breeds’.

Fortunately, Frank is now back home from the vets and despite the scary incident is ‘well in himself’.

Mr McIntosh said: ‘Dachshunds are stubborn and very wilful dogs – he wants me to walk him more than I’m allowing him.

‘It hasn’t affected him. When I have taken him to our front garden and dogs have passed, he’s not disturbed.

‘His character hasn’t changed – the Frank that I knew before all of this happened. Frank is well in himself and is just taking it easy.’

Mr McIntosh says the attack on December 21 was reported to the dog warden, Hampshire police and the RSPCA.
