The disappearance of a man in a tiny mining town is being treated as suspicious, with homicide detectives called in to investigate.

Raymond Smith, 68, was last seen about 5pm on December 7 in Greenbushes, 245km south of Perth.

West n Police say he has not been in contact with family or friends since, which is out of character.

‘Police have serious concerns for his welfare,’ a spokeswoman said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr Smith is 172cm tall, with a slim build, shoulder-length hair, and a full beard and moustache.

Members of the public with information about his whereabouts should contact police.

Greenbushes’ mining operations produce tantalite, lithium, tin and kaolin.

The town has a population of about 360 people.
