It is Magnus Ferrell, 20, who is the oldest son of Will Ferrell and Viveca Paulin.

The two stars tied the knot back in 2000 and are also parents to sons Mattias, 18, and Axel, 14.

And now Magnus’ past appearance on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis has resurfaced as he gave a little insight into his upbringing and the ‘craziest’ guest at a holiday dinner.

‘It’s kind of a bizarre story,’ the musician began. ‘It wasn’t really a family dinner – it was more like this Christmas thing we do with close friends and family.’

He then revealed that the celebrity guest that was in attendance at the gathering was fellow actor and Will’s close friend, John C. Reilly.

Both Ferrell and Reilly have starred in a number of projects together over the years, such as Step Brothers (2008) and Holmes & Watson (2018).

Magnus continued, ‘John C. Reilly was there, and it was pretty normal. Then, at one point, he just started singing opera. Like, performing an opera song.’

‘It was the most amazing things. Bizarre, but then you’re like, “Wait, this is so funny,”‘ he added.

During the podcast episode which first aired in 2023, the media personality also shared that he didn’t watch some of his father’s films until he was older.

‘There are still some movies I haven’t seen yet, just because I haven’t gotten around to it.’

Magnus added, ‘I haven’t seen Blades of Glory, which I think is kind of a crime. Step Brothers though – that’s my favorite of his movies. I just think it’s funny.’

While he has yet to see an assortment of his dad’s projects, the 20-year-old had the chance to appear alongside Will in the 2013 sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

According to his official IMDB page, Magnus was credited as Sea World Kid while starring in the comedic film.

He has also accompanied Ferrell to a variety of red carpet events, and the pair posed together at the premiere of Barbie back in 2023 in London. Will played the role of the Mattel CEO in the Greta Gerwig movie.

Last year in September, Magnus as well as brother Mattias supported Will at the premiere of Will & Harper in L.A. The actor’s wife, Viveca, flashed a cheerful smile as she also joined the festivities.

Earlier this week on Monday, Will and Magnus were seen sitting next to each other as they watched the L.A. Lakers take on the San Antonio Spurs at the Crypto.com Arena.

Last year in June 2024, Magnus recalled the embarrassing prank his father had pulled before his high school prom in a viral TikTok.

While taking a photo of himself inside a recording studio, he wrote: ‘rating things my dad has done.’

He then uploaded a throwback image while standing next to his dad and added, ‘Dressed as a medieval lord to embarrass me at prom 10000/10. True story.’

Will was also spotted DJing at his eldest son’s fraternity party at USC. The 20-year-old is a part of Alpha Mu and Ferrell was notably a member of Delta Tau Delta.

The budding star has been focusing on his music career, and often shares snippets of his tracks on social media.

Magnus has released a few singles including Missed Your Chance and Hasn’t Even Started.

And during an interview with The Soundgeist last year, he opened up about breaking out into his own success in the industry.

‘Getting the “nepotism baby” criticism was something I definitely expected. It was going to be inevitable no matter what I decided to do,’ he stated. ‘I do get more exposure and have more eyes on me.’

‘But at the end of the day, the cool thing about music is that no matter who you are, who you are related to, who you know or what position you’re in, the music still has to be good and stand out to matter.’

The budding musician added, ‘I didn’t come into this world, into this existence with innate music skills, I had to work hard to learn music theory and work on my voice and practice instruments.’

‘Music is not something you can shy away from and hide in, you need to be actively working to make yourself better.’

And it appears that Magnus has acquired some of his father’s comedic skills as well.

During a past interview with Parade in 2018, Will told the outlet this his eldest son is ‘very subtly funny.’

‘Last year, for his yearbook photo, he borrowed another kid’s glasses. He doesn’t wear glasses. There he is with this very serious look with glasses on,’ Ferrell said at the time.

The actor explained that he applauded his son for the joke. ‘Like, “Magnus, that is so subversive and funny. Totally my sense of humor.” He’s like, “Am I in trouble?” Like, “No, you’ve got to do it every year! Fantastic!”‘
