A 12-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car on on Main Road, Glenorchy in Hobart’s northern suburbs.
Tasmania Police and emergency services were called to the scene near Cosgrove High School shortly after 3pm today, after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
‘Despite attempts by emergency responders, the boy sadly passed away at the scene,’ the police said in a statement.
‘Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.’
Forensics and crash investigators were at the scene on Friday afternoon and the police said their investigations were continuing.

The police statement added that ‘The driver of the vehicle has been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for mandatory blood testing.’
Main Road in Glenorchy remains closed between Elwick Road and Lampton Avenue and is expected to stay closed for several hours while police carry out investigations.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area if possible.
