A group of heroic friends sprang into action when they spotted a child abductor’s vehicle over the weekend.
Police in Price Georges County, Maryland issued an AMBER Alert Saturday afternoon asking the public to be on the lookout for a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SUV with the Maryland license plate 8GK3445.
It was feared that one-year-old Day-Rene Garris Collins may be inside the vehicle after being abducted by her relative, 36-year-old Shannon Collins, and anyone who saw either the suspect or the vehicle was asked to call authorities immediately and not engage with him themselves.
That is exactly what the group of friends did when they saw the gray vehicle pass to the right of them hours later, video from the heroic friends’ car shows.
It begins with the suspect’s vehicle pulling next to them, causing the friends to scream. When the vehicle then pulled in front of them at a red light, the license plate was clearly visible.
The video, posted to TikTok, ends with police parking on the side of the road and surrounding Shannon Collins.
‘All thanks to us,’ one woman could be heard saying in the video.
‘Yeah, cause why you kidnapped a kid?’ another responded.
Prince Georges police confirmed in the aftermath that a good Samaritan called Maryland State Police to report seeing the vehicle in question, and Shannon Collins was taken into custody without incident.
The one-year-old girl was also found safe inside the vehicle, and is now in police care.
‘Thanks to a great community partnership, an alert citizen spotted the AMBER Alert car,’ the police department wrote on social media as it canceled the alert.
‘That citizen contacted Maryland State Police who relayed the locations to the Prince Georges County PD through our inner operable radio system.
‘Thank you community and public safety agencies for your partnership,’ the department concluded.
Daily Mail has reached out to the police department and the man who originally posted the video to TikTok for more information.
