alert-–-hbo-outrages-fans-of-the-gilded-age-by-broadcasting-latest-episode-of-costume-drama-with-glaring-errorAlert – HBO outrages fans of The Gilded Age by broadcasting latest episode of costume drama with glaring error

Ay, caramba!

An apparent glitch during an episode of the popular HBO Max costume drama The Gilded Age left viewers watching the show completely in Spanish.

Fans of the hit series, which is set in 1880s New York City, tuned in on Sunday night to find the episode dubbed over – much to their confusion.

‘Why is it only in Spanish when I try to watch? I checked settings, and the other episodes are in English. This is maddening!!!’ one viewer wrote on Facebook in reply to an HBO Max post promoting the episode.

‘The Gilded Age is currently only playing in Spanish on my app and I cannot follow what is happening to Señora Russell. Help! Ayuda!’ another joked on X.

‘Why is it only playing in Spanish? All of my settings are English. I only speak English,’ a third added.

The error bizarrely seemed to affect viewers who had English selected as their primary language.

Users reported that changing their language settings to ‘Spanish Latin America’ resulted in getting the episode in English.

‘For those having trouble with the episode coming up in Spanish[,] pause the episode and change the language to Spanish,’ one user wrote in Facebook’s ‘HBO The Gilded Age Fan Page’.

‘The languages swapped for some reason.’

HBO Max did not appear to comment on the flood of online comments regarding the mix-up.

The Daily Mail has reached out to HBO for comment.

The Gilded Age has seen ratings soar to five million viewers an episode in its third season after becoming a slow-burn, word-of-mouth hit.

It tells the story of ultra-wealthy families living in 1880s New York City, with the tension between old and new money as well as issues involving sexism and racism all explored by its storylines.

The show centers on the new money Russell family, helmed by railroad tycoon father George (Morgan Spector) and social climbing mother Bertha (Carrie Coon).

Recent episodes have left viewers enthralled and infuriated by Bertha forcing the couple’s daughter Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) to marry an English duke.

The betrothal has conferred huge status on the Russells and given the duke access to cash to fix up his crumbling English state.

But it has also put considerable strain on George and Bertha’s marriage, with George’s latest railroad project also now in deep financial difficulty.

Viewers have also watched enthralled as lowly footman Jack Trecher invents an alarm clock which makes him his fortune and transforms his social standing.

The show, developed by Downtown Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, will air its third season finale on Sunday and has been re-commissioned for a fourth season.
