It’s been a month since Haley Joel Osment suffered the loss of his beloved Altadena home due to the devastation of the Eaton Fire after nearly four years living there.

The 36-year-old former child star had previously lived in New York for 15 years before deciding to make the big move back to his LA hometown in order to be closer to the industry.

‘I got my place in LA on March 16th 2020, which was the day of the first lockdowns. So then immediately we were in the pandemic for a very long time,’ Haley recalled on the Mentor Buffet podcast last Thursday.

‘I had this very intense pandemic relationship that ended up going nowhere. Then things started picking up after the worse the pandemic. Then there was the [SAG/WGA] strike, which I totally supported, but that put everything on hold for a very long time. And then we’ve had some political upheaval and this house that had been my refuge during the pandemic was completely destroyed in the Eaton Fire.’

At the time, Osment – who boasts 268K social media followers – took to Instastory to announce the sad news: ‘My heart would be so full every time I drove home. It was such a special place. I loved living there.’

On January 26, the Oscar-nominated actor’s younger sister – Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage actress Emily Osment – revealed that not only did he lose his home, but their parents also lost their house to the Eaton Fire.

‘So now it’s like, all right like I guess I’m getting a message to not settle down and be responsible?’ Haley mused on Mentor Buffet.

‘I have a good mindset right now because I’m back to where I was before I moved back to LA five years ago where I was just like, “Send me anywhere!” Like six years in South Africa, I signed up for a show there in 2016. I was like, “I’ll go anywhere in the world now because every time I try and domesticate myself the world really has been punching me in the mouth every time that happens.”‘

Luckily, Osment managed to save one special keepsake from the Alabama set of Forrest Gump, in which he made his big-screen debut at age five as Forrest Jr. in 1994.
