With the massive success of her wellness and lifestyle brand, Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow has become a guru of sorts on the subject.

So it makes perfect sense that her many millions of fans and followers would want to know her nighttime ritual leading up to bedtime.

In a new interview for the Air Mail Weekly Instagram page, the Academy Award-winning actress reveals she wears mouth tape while sleeping on a $60,000 mattress, as well as a number of other rituals she does on a daily basis.

The interview comes amid the promotional push for Goop’s new 3x Retinol Serum that aims to ‘avoid the dreaded skin purging, flaking, and redness.’

It also marks Paltrow’s return to a film set for the first time since she starred in Avengers: Endgame (2019), which translates to about five years, with the exception of a couple of voice roles she did over the last couple of years.

Paltrow, 52, began by sharing how she starts getting ready for bed early, especially since the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, when she and husband Brad Falchuck started eating their dinners earlier than normal.

‘At 7:30 or 8:00, I start my whole bedtime ritual,’ she shared, before adding, ‘During COVID we got into the habit of eating dinner really early, and it’s sort of stuck.’

When asked if she adds any steps to her nighttime ritual when she’s shooting a project, she quickly realized she can’t even answers the question because she been out of the Hollywood scene for years.

‘I don’t even know,’ she answered back, which came at a time before she started work on the sports drama Marty Supreme, her first feature film in about five years. ‘It’s been so long since I shot a project, and now I’m about to, so I guess I better start to pay attention.’

She then added, ‘I think if I was shooting something I would make a bath extra-hot, with essential oils and Epsom salts, or the Goop “Martini” bath — it helps me sleep really well.’

When asked about the one thing she does before going to bed for the night, the Shakespeare In Love star revealed, ‘I sleep with mouth tape and earplugs, so I get all my sleep stuff lined up.’

Mouth is a popular health and wellness trend, and involved placing special adhesive tape over your lips at night to keep your mouth closed and to stop mouth breathing while you sleep.

The ritual of mouth taping does force you to breathe through your nose, which has many benefits that mouth breathing doesn’t, including: controlling the temperature of the air you breathe, and filtering allergens, debris, or toxins from the air before they reach your lungs.

Before putting the tape on to her lips, Paltrow and her husband typically like to watch television, and at times, certain shows will help her fall to sleep.

‘My husband and I usually get in bed and watch something, and sometimes, very counterintuitively, I’ll fall asleep to a murder show. It’s sort of a lullaby for me – I don’t know why,’ she explained. ‘Right now we are watching Drops Of God, on Apple TV+. It’s not a murder show, unfortunately, but it’s very good. My mother recommended it.’

There are also times when a little extra is needed to help decompress after a long and arduous day of work.

‘I like to take an evening walk. Or, a nice glass of red wine always does the trick, even though it’s not so good for you,’ Paltrow shared.

The Goop founder went on to disclose that she’s big on wearing pajamas to bed, and that her favorite brand is Schostal, from Rome, while her preferable conditions for sleep time: ‘No light, no sound, and I like it cold.’

When it comes to the kind of sheets the Los Angeles native likes to use with her $60,000 Avocado bed, which was in collaboration with Goop, she revealed another high end company.

‘My sheets are from a company called Beltrami, in Italy,’ she responded. ‘It’s funny you should ask about my mattress: Sorry to plug Goop, but I swear to God, we made one with Avocado mattress, and it is the greatest thing I have ever slept on in my life. And the pillows I use are from a place called Cuddledown.’

Marty Supreme — which is directed by Uncut Gems filmmaker Josh Safdie and co-written with his longtime collaborator Ronald Bronstein — stars Timothée Chalamet in the title role.

The story was inspired by professional table tennis player Marty Reisman, though ‘sources close to the production’ called the story ‘a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic.’

While principal photography started in September in New York City, it’s not known exactly when Paltrow began her work on the production.

Along with Chalamet and Paltrow, the cast also features Tyler, the Creator; Odessa A’zion; Penn Jillette; Kevin O’Leary; Abel Ferrara — who’s best known for his work behind the camera as an acclaimed director — and Fran Drescher.

So far, there isn’t any official word on when Marty Supreme will premiere in theaters, but it’s assumed it will be some time in late 2025.
