Greg Rutherford has revealed he has suffered a ‘terrifying’ and ‘harrowing’ ordeal, after a skylight exploded in his home.
The Olympian, 37, took to his Instagram Stories at the weekend to share the aftermath of the scary incident, showing the dangerous glass shards strewn across his living room.
He admitted that he was still ‘shaking’ after the window suddenly shattered, only moments after his children had been sat under it.
Greg – who shares kids Milo, eight, Rex, five, and Daphne, two, with his fiancée Susie Verrill – voiced his complete shock and relief that no one had been hurt.
Filming the glass fragments scattered across the sofa and surrounding floor, he explained: ‘One of the most terrifying experiences – one of our skylights up here just exploded.

‘Just, literally, me standing in the kitchen watching the TV on the wall, and it just went – bang! And glass went everywhere.’
Recounting how lucky of an escape eldest child Milo had, Greg said: ‘I kid you not, two minutes before, Milo was down here doing some school work, and I said, “It’s a nice day, go out on the deck, mate”.
‘Thank God I did that because if not, I can’t even imagine what could have happened.’
The retired athlete panned up to show the light above and mused: ‘I have no idea if it’s the sun that’s heated it up, and it’s happened, or if something like this happens. I cannot explain to you how terrifying…’
He then explained how close a call he had, saying: ‘I’ve been walking in and out because I’ve been trying to tidy up today, I’ve walked past this 50 times in the last half an hour.’
A shaken up Greg concluded: ‘I don’t know. What a harrowing thing to happen.’
He then posted a close-up photo of the sofa where his children had been sat moments before, showing how it was now covered in sharp pieces of glass.
Greg captioned the eerie picture: ‘The kids were sat just here before. Can’t stop shaking!’

It is the latest in a string of bad luck for the father-of-three, who recently broke his phone while recovering from a bad bout of whooping cough, that forced him to miss the TV BAFTAs last month.
His fiancée Susie also revealed that their beloved dog Gus had terminal cancer and the family were taking the opportunity to enjoy their last moments with him.
While Greg previously revealed he and his family were going through a ‘tough time’, following his painful show injury on Dancing On Ice.
He was forced to pull out of the ITV show final after he sustained an injury during rehearsals, later revealing he had torn his abs.
After suffering a difficult few weeks as a family due to the injury, he took to his Instagram Stories to confess: ‘We’re having a s*** time as a family at the moment so I’m cooking through it. Thanks for all your well wishes.’
It comes after Greg recently shared his painful looking scar and the ‘insane swelling’ after his abdominal surgery.
Sharing several candid snaps, he wrote: ‘A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better.
‘I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.

‘I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates.’
Greg only revealed what his ‘horrible’ Dancing On Ice injury was as he headed into hospital to have surgery.
The athlete said ‘effectively gave myself a C-section’ when he tried to skate through the legs of professional Colin Grafton in rehearsals.
He told fans: ‘Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking “what happened?”
‘I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn’t got round to talking about it.
‘Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.
‘So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible.’
The Olympian was set to battle it all out against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy.

Ryan skated to victory and was crowned Dancing On Ice’s 2024 winner alongside pro partner Amani Fancy during the live final .
Greg, meanwhile, shared a video of himself and Vanessa James doing the bolero as he lamented that he missed the final and was a ‘bit heartbroken’.
He wrote: ‘Something that I really wish I could have performed… #Bolero Im almost 36 hours since the injury and watching the videos of what could have been. It’s bloody hard to take at this point as I know we could have shown something exciting and new with our final performances.
‘Of course the Bolero isn’t a given and I’ll post our showcase at some point too… I haven’t shown the end as I’m determined to actually perform it with Vanessa one day for everyone to see.
‘I’m really proud of what we achieved on the show. This take was from Saturday morning and we were marking for the double twist… the full program was truly beautiful. I’m a bit heart broken at the moment.
