Green Day poked fun at Charli XCX and her Coachella ‘headliner’ sash controversy as they took to the stage for their second weekend performance on Saturday.
The iconic rock band headlined the annual festival in California, while Charli, 32, performed earlier in the evening and following her 7.15pm set last week wore a ‘Miss Should Be Headliner’ sash to an afterparty.
As she danced the night away behind the DJ deck, the Brat singer turned heads with the accessory leading some fans to claim she’d had gotten too big for her boots.
However Green Day took it all in good fun and fashioned their own ‘Actual Headliner’ sash out of toilet paper which guitarist Tré Cool, 52, wore while frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, 53, closed the show with a Brat hat in honour of Charli.
The band posted a snap of their sash to social media and the songstress was clearly delighted, as she reshared the image captioning that she was ‘obsessed’.
While Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, starred on the mainstage, it was Green Day, who has won 96 awards and nominated for 218, who headlined.
