Glenn Close shared what she really thought of Nicole Scherzinger taking over the role that earned her a third Tony Award in 1995 when she attended Jamie Lloyd’s Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard in Manhattan on Tuesday night.

The 46-year-old former Pussycat Doll has been receiving rave reviews for her Broadway debut as fading silent screen legend Norma Desmond in the minimalist production, which runs through July 13 at the St. James Theatre.

The 78-year-old acting legend graciously visited Nicole backstage where they bonded over their shared love for ‘arguably the greatest role ever written for a woman.’

‘You can’t approach Norma with a faint heart. She tests your metal [and] demands that you dig deep,’ Glenn – who boasts 952K Instagram followers – gushed Wednesday.

‘Nicole’s performance is an act of raw artistry and astounding bravery.’

Close continued: ‘She and the entire production blew me away. I loved meeting Nicole, [her co-star] Tom Francis, and many members of the ensemble backstage afterwards!’

Scherzinger (born Valiente) replied: ‘You are striking and stunning in every way possible. What a blessing to have you join us. Thank you for your beauty, grace, kindness, generosity, and for giving us new ways to dream… I love you.’

The Honolulu-born, Kentucky-raised beauty has already won the 2024 Olivier for best actress in a musical and she’ll compete for the Drama Desk Award for outstanding lead performance in a musical on June 1.

Meanwhile, the eight-time Oscar nominee starred in the first-ever LA production in 1993-1994 before usurping The West End’s Norma Desmond – Patti LuPone – to star in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway from 1994-1995 as well as the 2017 revival.

Glenn (born Glenda) is also absolutely intent on bringing her Andrew Lloyd Webber version of Norma to the big screen for the first time since Billy Wilder’s Oscar-winning 1950 film starring the iconic Gloria Swanson.

‘It’s moving forward,’ Close updated Us Weekly last year.

‘The movie is in the works and I’m not giving up on that one…We’re trying to find a director, we have a great script. That character of Norma is so heartbreakingly beautiful and will never not have relevance, it’s been a great blessing to play her and I’m not willing to let her go yet without one more tribute.’

But first audiences can catch the Connecticut-born thespian in Ryan Murphy’s eight-episode legal drama All’s Fair, which premieres later this year on Hulu.

All’s Fair will also feature acting heavyweights Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, and Ed O’Neill as well as Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, and Matthew Noszka.

Glenn’s other projects include Andy Serkis’ animated drama Animal Farm, Charlie McDowell’s drama The Summer Book, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out three-quel Wake Up Dead Man, and Simon Curtis’ acting comedy Encore.
