She did not, however, reveal a cause of death nor any other details about the circumstances surround his passing.

Lavelle shared three snaps of the actor with the caption: ‘It is with deep profound sadness to say that Gary Graham, my ex husband, amazing actor and father of our beautiful only child together, Haylee Graham, has passed away today.

‘We are completely devastated especially our daughter Haley. His wife, Becky was by his side.’

His ex-wife then went in to how they met before describing his personality.

She wrote: ‘I met Gary when I was just 20 years old and he was one half of the star duo on the tv series, Alien Nation. But he had already been in movies like All The Right Moves with Tom Cruise. Of course, Gary has many more credits.

‘Gary was funny, sarcastic sense of humor but kind, fought for what he believed in, a devout Christian and was so proud of his daughter, Haylee.’

Gary had previously talked about what a challenge it is to play a Vulcan over the more aggressive Klingons in an interview with Sci-fi Bulletin as he said: ‘The thing I appreciate about Klingons is their blind, violent aggression.

‘If you want to play football, what you need to have coming out of the locker room is violent aggression; you want to rip into your opponents – just deck them. Even in the locker room you’re bashing your helmet against the lockers, so that kind of adrenaline rush I really love.’

He went on to explain he enjoyed the challenge of playing a more cerebral character.

The actor explained: ‘Vulcans of course are exactly the opposite – it’s a day for opposites – very difficult to play. If somebody were just cerebral you could play that, but people who are cerebral – and have done that out of survival against their natural nature – are explosive, organic and emotional.

‘To sublimate that into a passive, intellectual outlook is a great challenge and a great mental game to play as an actor.’

The talented actor was also the star of television series Alien Nation over all 22 episodes which aired over one season from 1989 to 1990.

In the series he portrayed Matthew ‘Matt’ Sikes’ who is a human detective partnered with an alien – known as Newcomers – detective named George Francisco.

Gary went on to star in five subsequent Alien Nation television films which aired from 1994 to 1997.
