New Year’s Eve partygoers in St Ives have been branded ‘selfish’ after leaving the picturesque beachfront covered in litter.
Furious locals have blamed tourists from outside Cornwall for leaving their rubbish following the festive celebrations on December 31.
Images show large numbers of people gathered along the popular beachfront destination.
Party hats and fancy dress costumes – including pirate hats and masks – could be seen under the Christmas lights.
A video also shows a huge crowd dancing and singing along to ‘Freed from Desire’ in costumes outside of the Sloop Inn pub.
However, the following morning pictures show empty plastic cups, beer cans and coffee cups sprawled across the sand.
Commenting beneath the image which was shared to Facebook, locals shared their anger with one saying there is ‘no excuse’.
A local wrote on social media: ‘Problem is, most people that were there last night don’t live in Cornwall and have no respect for our beautiful town… see it all through the summer too.’
A second person said that there were ‘bins in town’ for the ‘lazy and selfish’ partygoers.
A third, however, complained that the town failed to put out extra bins for people and the mess is ‘more on whoever organises’ as ‘bins are usually full by around 8pm along the front’.
But the second local replied saying: ‘If a bin is full you can still stack your cans glass plastic cups next to the bin or use the bag you bought it in.
‘Take plastic cups leave outside the pub, it’s not that difficult to NOT just leave it on the beach that’s just pure thoughtless lazyness and not caring.
‘It’s not I know [that] bins full means I just leave it where I was sat on the sand!!! No excuse.’
