A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a four-year-old child.
The child died at Smithton, in north-west Tasmania, at 10.15pm on May 31.
A 35-year-old man, who was ‘well-known’ to the child, was arrested and charged overnight.
‘He has been held in custody to appear in an out-of-hours court session at the Burnie Magistrates Court on Sunday morning,’ a Tasmania Police spokesman said.
A 30-year-old woman, who was also ‘well-known to the child, was charged with ill-treating a child.
She was granted bail and will appear at court at a later date.
