Social media exploded after hearing the news that Barron Trump is going to officially enter politics, as he will serve as a delegate for his father at the Republican National Convention later this year.
Barron, who only turned 18 in March, was chosen as one of the state of Florida’s 41 at-large delegates to the national gathering of Republicans in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in mid-July.
He will be one of the estimated 2,429 delegates who are expected to officially nominate his father as the Republican candidate for the 2024 race.
This led many on social media to both worry for and delight in the fact that they felt this meant Trump’s youngest son was now ‘fair game’ to attack and that his mother would let her son open himself up to such criticism.
Rob Vorcek wrote: ‘I very much believe this is going to end very badly. He’s now fair game to the media. I’m actually surprised. I thought [Barron’s mother] Melania would do everything to prevent this but if Barron, now an adult, personally made this decision to participate in his father’s circus, so be it.’

Others compared the treatment of Barron to that given to the children of Presidents Clinton and Obama.
‘Barron Trump is fair game,’ wrote one X user. ‘I repeat fair game. Don’t care. You came for Chelsea at 13. You went after the Obama girls as children & still are attacking them. This anchor baby deserves nothing less. He’s a lab experiment gone wrong.’
‘Before Republicans clutch their pearls about whatever Barron Trump is trending for again, maybe they should apologize to Malia and Sasha Obama, Chelsea Clinton, David Hogg, Greta Thunberg and every single little girl they forced to give birth,’ wrote another.
Tristan Snell joked: ‘By the end of this year, perhaps Barron Trump will be a fake Trump elector in Florida — after Biden wins Florida in November.’
Barron has largely been kept out of the public eye, but was brought into the spotlight this week after a judge delayed his father’s hush money trial in New York so that he can attend Barron’s high school graduation on May 17.
Regardless of age, the first son has often been treated harshly on social media by liberals and even some members of the mainstream media.
Former NBC News executive Mike Sington said Barron was ‘fair game’ after the birthday that marks adulthoot. He later deleted the tweet after facing harsh backlash and criticism online.
Sington told Newsweek: ‘I posted he was ‘fair game’ now, meaning, as an adult, he’s ‘fair game’ for criticism from the press.

‘Someone pointed out to me ‘fair game’ could mean fair game to be harmed.
‘I don’t wish physical harm on anyone, so I took it down. I listen to the comments and criticism I receive.’
Trump has been subject to death threats from those who opposed his father’s actions as president.
He is currently living in Florida with his parents and considering what college to attend with help from his mother Melania.
Barron has been kept almost completely out of the limelight for much of his childhood – as a large proportion of his adolescence took place during his father Donald Trump’s White House tenure.
He was the first boy to grow up in the White House since JFK Jr in 1963 – and Barron has lived through many of his family’s scandals in his teen years.
In January 2018, he was not yet 12 when the media was engulfed by porn star Stormy Daniels’s bombshell claims that she had an affair with Donald just four months after Barron was born.
During his presidency, Trump’s most ardent critics even resorted to criticizing the young boy as a means of attacking his father.

A Saturday Night Live writer who made a bad-taste joke about Barron Trump on Twitter apologized for her ‘inexcusable’ actions after she was suspended from the show.
On Inauguration Day 2017, Katie Rich tweeted that the ten-year-old boy would become ‘this country’s first homeschool shooter,’ but deleted it three hours later.
She then came in for an avalanche of criticism from Twitter users, who branded her ‘scum’, called for her account to be blocked, and urged NBC to fire her.
Rich wasn’t fired, but she was suspended indefinitely from working on the show after the furor failed to cool down over the weekend, an insider told Deadline Monday.
The same day, she tweeted: ‘I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.’
Rich left the show in 2019 and now works as a writer on various projects.
Trump’s adult children from previous marriages have faced criticisms due to their public profiles, but Barron’s young age has protected him from much of the attention.
