Aldi employees pulled several cases of chocolate chip muffins off of store shelves following an urgent recall issued by the FDA.
The FDA announced on June 26 that FGF Brands Inc is recalling 11,830 Aldi Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffin 4 count.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide and come in a clear plastic container with a red label, according to WFTV 9.
FGF Brands Inc recalled the product due to an ‘undeclared walnut allergen.’
Aldi employees sold the affected Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffin 4 count in 22 states, including New York and Texas.
The recall was initiated after an individual discovered that the label on the product did not say the muffins contained walnuts.
The FDA conducted an investigation and concluded that the error was caused by a breakdown in the company’s production and packing processes.
All the affected packages are marked with lot number NF1 142Y on the top and UPC on the label 4099100048278.
The company suspended the production of the Bakeshop product until the FDA and FGF Brands Inc are certain the problem is corrected.
The FDA has since urged customers who purchased the 4-count chocolate chip muffin product to return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
Consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts could run the risk of a life threatening allergic reaction.
However, as of now, consumers have not reported illnesses or other health issues related to the recall.
This is the sixth recall of a product sold at Aldi’s this year and the first one to occur in June.
Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc recalled ALDI Macaroni Salad 32 oz plastic on May 19 due to an undeclared wheat allergy on packages sold in 15 states.
Schreiber Foods issued a voluntary recall earlier that month after four of its cream cheese products were distributed to multiple Aldi stores due to a risk of salmonella.
The company recalled the product after a supplier informed it that an ingredient in the cream cheese spread may have contained salmonella.
Schreiber Foods recommended at the time that consumers throw out the cream cheese products or receive a refund upon store return.
