Several families have lost all of their belongings after a devastating blaze tore through their homes in Cornwall.

The fire spread rapidly through a row of houses on the outskirts of Launceston in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 01:48am.

Everyone miraculously managed to escape unharmed after dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene to douse the roaring flames.

Both appliances from Launceston Community Fire Station were sent to the incident and on arrival declared a major emergency and called for back-up.

Delabole Community Fire Station and Bodmin Community Fire Station were also mobilised to the incident.

Launceston Fire Station, sharing a statement on social media, said: ‘This was a major incident with a huge emergency response’.

‘A devastating outcome for the occupants of the properties who have lost all their belongings but most importantly all safe and accounted for,’ the statement continued.

Further assistance was supplied by Liskeard Community Fire Station and Holsworthy Fire Station engines were also sent to the scene.

Additional resources included ALP from Crownhill Fire Station and BA support from St Austell Community Fire Station as well as a water carrier from Liskeard Community Fire Station.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is now appealing for donations for a family who lost everything in the fire.

They are requesting both adult and children’s clothes which can be dropped off at the New Market Inn, Launceston.

The fire station said: ‘The family’s affected by this horrific incident are in desperate need of the following items: Boys clothing age 5, boys trainers adult size 5, girls clothing age 8/9, women’s clothing size 18, and men’s clothing size small’.

‘Please message our Facebook page if you have any items you would like to donate and we will get back to you regarding collection/drop off.

‘Let’s get together as a community and support these families who have lost everything’.

A spokesperson for CFRS also said: ‘Thank you to Bude Community Fire Station for covering Launceston and attending other incidents while we were busy.’

Padstow Community Fire Station is remaining on scene for the day to dampen down and monitor hotspots.
