Firefighters have initiated an emergency response protocol after ‘three booms and shakes’ were felt on Roosevelt Island in New York City early Tuesday morning.

FDNY crews were called to the 580 block of Main Street, south of the Roosevelt Island Bridge & Tram, just before 6am after receiving reports of an explosion.

The fire department has reportedly received reports of ‘multiple explosions’ in the area and are ‘trying to find the source’.

Locals have reported waking up to hearing the sounds of explosions and feeling buildings shake.

Neither firefighters nor police have confirmed the reports yet.
