Eddie Redmayne was roasted online for his ‘terrifying’ Cabaret performance at Sunday’s 2024 Tony Awards – which saw the star compared to Pennywise the clown in the eerie skit.

The British star,  42, who won the Best Actor Oscar in 2015 for The Theory of Everything  – transformed into The Emcee for a chilling performance of Willkommen at the awards – amid his starring turn in the West End revival running on Broadway.

However, the star’s extremely quirky rendition – which saw him belting out showtunes with a hunched back, making bizarre gestures and gazing wild-eyed at the camera in extreme close-ups – saw him likened to a ‘sleep paralysis demon’ with fans quipping that his Oscar should be revoked.

One fan wrote: ‘Why is Eddie Redmayne playing the emcee in Cabaret like he’s a goblin?’

Another wrote of the star – who was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category: ‘Eddie Redmayne is terrifying.’
