A driver has been taken into custody after his vehicle crashed into the gate surrounding the White House.
The arrest was confirmed on Monday evening by Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service.
He said the crash happened on the east side of the White House complex, by Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street.
‘Shortly before 6p.m., a vehicle collided with an exterior gate on the White House complex,’ he wrote on X.
‘The driver has been taken into custody & we are investigating the cause & manner of the collision.
‘Expect traffic implications at 15th Street & Pennsylvania Ave & adjacent intersections.’

The identity of the driver has not yet been released, and it is unclear whether it was an accident.
Joe Biden was not at the White House at the time, as he was traveling home from Charleston, South Carolina.
