A man has been hit with a raft of charges after his alleged drunken hooning saw him lose control of his ute, which hit another car injuring a six-year-old girl before bursting into flames.
The man, 29, is accused of doing burnouts in his Ford Falcon ute on Stapylton Jacobs Well Road at Gilberton on the northern Gold Coast at 10pm on Friday before he lost control of his vehicle.
This led to the ute colliding with a Holden Commodore, which was being driven by a 30-year-old man and had a six-year-old girl as a passenger.
The Commodore driver was not injured while the girl sustained minor injuries.
Despite the ute catching on fire the driver was not injured.
He has been charged with one count each of driving whilst over the middle alcohol limit (0.104), dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and stealing (fuel).
The man is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates court on Monday.
Anti-hoon laws were introduced last year in Queensland to crack down on dangerous driving.
Under those laws, participating in any hooning event, from illegal street races to burnouts, is a criminal offence.
This even includes encouraging others to watch or participate in such activities.
