Terrifying footage shows a pit bull attack a Texas two-year-old as his mom battles desperately to save him.

Young CJ was savaged by the dog while on his way to daycare with his mother Chante Wright-Haywood.

The relentless animal pursued them to their door, despite the frantic mom repeatedly kicking the dog to get it off.

Even once inside, the canine continued to batter against the door, breaking it off its hinges while the terrified family cowered inside.

‘You can hear like that snapping, trying to get to him [my son],’ Wright-Haywood told WRKG News 5 after the brutal attack was caught on her doorbell camera.

‘My daughter was able to open the door, and I just kind of pushed him in…the dog was trying to get into the house.

‘Me and the kids were putting all our body weight on the door to hold the door close to keep the dog out while I’m calling police and EMS to come,’

The clip shows CJ toddling out of his Austin home when he is suddenly pounced on by the animal which knocks him to the ground.

His mom begins shouting ‘No!’ before kicking at the dog to try and save her screaming son.

She scooped CJ up in one hand and makes a dash for the door, all the while being pursued by the snarling dog which keeps lunging at him even at her doorstep.

Wright-Haywood is seen kicking at the dog as the canine refuses to give up, smashing a pot plant as it wrecks havoc on her porch which was left covered in soil.

Even once she got inside the fight continued, with her other children forced to try and hold the door shut as the dog scratched and pawed from the other side.

The nightmare ended when animal control workers showed up and impounded the dog, which has still not been claimed.

Photos of the aftermath show the family’s front door covered in scratch marks, while their front porch is covered in shattered pottery and soil.

Haywood-Wright said her son is making a good recovery although the two remain shaken up.

The mom-of-six added that the area has recorded lots of issues with off leash and abandoned dogs.

‘We have an issue with people just coming in dropping dogs off, they don’t want the dog anymore,’ Wright-Haywood said.

‘I really just wanted people to take responsibility for their animals.’

Dog attacks in Austin have been on the rise every year since 2007, the Austin-American statesman reported.
