Donald Trump served Thanksgiving meals to law enforcement officials combating illegal immigration at the southern border.

The former president took selfies and delivered meals to the agents Sunday near McAllen, Texas along with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Just moments after the meals were served, Abbott endorsed Trump’s bid for president as the campaign heats up and comes down to the wire with primary contests starting in less than two months.

Those attending the meal on Sunday were Texas State Troopers, Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety officers and others who will be stationed along the southern border over the Thanksgiving holiday this week.

‘Gov. Abbott recognizes that no president has done more than Donald Trump to secure our border,’ a statement from Trump’s campaign noted.

Video and images of the event on Sunday showed Trump and Abbott serving the meals at South Texas International airport, while the ex-president shook hands and posed for selfies with the agents in Edinburg, Texas.

Those invited for the meal with Trump and Abbott are agents and officers missing out on their families’ Thanksgiving celebrations while they are stationed at the border over the holiday.

On Saturday, Trump delivered remarks at a rally in Fort Dodge, Iowa where he asked for voters in the first-in-the-nation primary state to caucus for him on January 15.

During his remarks in Iowa, Trump laid out his plan to ‘terminate every open borders policy of the Biden administration.’

The trip to Iowa comes as polls show Trump remaining at least 30 points ahead of the rest of the primary field – with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis remaining in distant second place, trailed by former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

‘We need a president who is going to secure the border,’ Abbott said in his endorsement of Trump. ‘We need a president who is going to restore law and order in the United States of America, not letting these criminals run ransack over the stores that you see images of almost nightly.’

‘We need a president who is going to restore world peace, as opposed to this outbreak of warfare under Joe Biden. We need Donald J. Trump back as our President of the United States of America.’

‘I’m here to officially proclaim my endorsement for Donald J. Trump to be President of the United States of America again!’ Abbott wrote.
