Doctor Who star Millie Gibson has admitted she’s finding her newfound fame ‘hard to accept’ as she prepares to make her long-awaited TARDIS debut.

The Coronation Street star, 19, will be introduced to a global audience of fans when she makes her first appearance as The Doctor’s companion Ruby Sunday, in a special episode on Christmas Day.

And speaking to The Sunday Times, Millie admitted she’s already been told that her ‘life is going to change’ thanks to her starring role in the new series of Doctor Who, which will hit screens in 2024.

She added that she’s been ‘preparing’ for the release of the series after wrapping filming on it earlier this year.

She said: ‘So many people have sat me down and said, ”Look, your life will change.” It is hard to accept that.

‘It’s a baffling thing to be told, to be honest. The first part was actually doing the job, preparing for that. And then the second part will be preparing for when it comes out.’

The star made the huge decision to leave Coronation Street last year after four years as Kelly Neelan, and just months later she was announced as The Doctor’s newest companion.

She said: ‘It’s really easy to get too comfy there and a part of me was like, ‘If I don’t leave now, I won’t leave for a while. They didn’t kill me off, which is lovely. So if it all goes wrong I can come crawling back.’

Airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, Doctor Who’s festive special sees the Doctor come face-to-face with the mythical and mysterious goblins as his life collides with Ruby.

Little is known about Ruby Sunday as she was abandoned on Christmas Eve as a baby.

Now living with her mum, Carla and grandmother, Cherry her world is about to be turned upside when she encounters the Doctor and the two set off on their first adventure together…

Alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson is Davina McCall who will be playing herself as she joins the cast alongside Michelle Greenidge as Ruby’s mum Carla, Angela Wynter as Ruby’s grandmother Cherry and Anita Dobson as Mrs Flood.

Davina said: ‘It is beyond an honour to be asked to appear in not only Doctor Who but also Ncuti’s first episode as the new Doctor.
