Doctor Who viewers were left ‘sobbing’ after Wilf Noble’s fate was revealed on Saturday after actor Bernard Cribbins died last year aged 93.

After the absent character was believed to have died it was revealed he was in fact happy and healthy, being cared for by UNIT’s Kate Stewart (Gemma Redgrave).

As an emotional Doctor (David Tennant) seemingly accepted Wilf’s fate saying ‘He wasn’t young, I loved that man, sorry for your loss’.

Only for granddaughter Donna (Catherine Tate) to exclaim: ‘He’s not dead!’.

‘He’s living in sheltered accommodation, he’s 94 and can’t manage the stairs!’.

The emotional episode then ended with Donna and The Doctor going to visit Wilf, who appeared in the series from 2007-2010, for ‘one last time’.
