A nurse and mother has been found dead with significant injuries in the bedroom of her suburban Brisbane home, with police saying a man known to her is helping with inquiries.
Emergency services were called to a home at Osprey Place in Taigum about 12.30am on Saturday, Queensland Police said.
A family member is understood to have found 48-year-old Carra Luke suffering from critical injuries and unresponsive.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to revive her..
Following initial investigations, officers attended a Hackman Street home in McDowall, 11km away, a short time later, where they located a 52-year-old man, who is assisting in the investigation.
No charges were immediately laid, with police confirming the pair were known to each other and are investigating all angles.
Ms Luke was known to people in the area as a devoted mother, a respected nurse and generous neighbour.
‘Everyone on the street is devastated by the news this morning,’ neighbour Jackson Hughesman told Nine News.
‘Carra was a kind and loving person who would go to extremes for anyone she met.’
Mr Hughesman said the family is in his thoughts during this hard time, adding: ‘We will miss her chats, her generosity and kindness.’
Ms Luke’s employer, Nundah Doctor Surgery also released a statement paying tribute to her 20 years of work as the ‘heart and soul of the practice’.
‘A most empathic and caring human being, nurse, mother, and friend… She has cared for her patients and helped through the most difficult times with the greatest professionalism and dedication,’ it said.
‘She is irreplaceable, and we will miss her every day. She will always remain in our hearts here at the practice.’
Crime scenes were established at both homes, with detectives and forensic officers seen scouring the quiet cul-de-sac throughout Saturday morning.
The SES also supported the search of a nearby aged care facility during the afternoon, which was then declared a third crime scene.
‘We’re investigating all angles, including domestic violence,’ Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman told reporters.
‘I think any scene where there’s violence involved is traumatic, including for first responders, police and ambulance.
‘Whilst trained and respond to events such as this right across the state on a daily basis, it’s still very confronting and a difficult scene for them to manage.
‘We’ll be providing support services for those frontline officers who attended.’
