Texas officials have launched a manhunt for a young cheerleader who has been missing since yesterday – and her mother suspects the teen’s ’emotionally abusive’ boyfriend might be involved.
Ava Phillips, 17, was last seen leaving Angleton High School at around 10 am and getting into a white Toyota Corolla after not attending her fourth-period class.
The teenager’s mother, Kailey Perez sounded the alarm after her car was found in the school parking lot with her phone, keys and backpack inside.
Perez also told Sergeant Cory Budnick of the Angleton Police Department that it may be possible that Ava is with her boyfriend and headed to Austin, nearly 200 miles away.

She later revealed to Click2Houston that the young teenager had recently been ‘trying to distance herself from a boy who had been emotionally abusive towards her’.
Perez also noted that she believes he may know her daughter’s current location but has refused to cooperate with the family or police.
It remains unclear if the boyfriend is the same boy that Perez said was emotionally abusive to her daughter. Neither one of them have yet been identified by officials.
‘She called me from a blocked number. She sounded scared and I don’t think she’s in control.
‘She told me she’d come home, but she hasn’t. I just want her home safely. She sounds very scared.

In a Facebook post, officials said that the brown-haired girl was seen wearing a gray crop top, black sweatpants, slippers and in a braid
Perez also noted that she believes the boy may know her daughter’s current location but has refused to cooperate with the family or police
‘Her voice is very shaky. I don’t think that she’s in control. I think that someone’s telling her what to say.
‘She’s a beautiful, sweet girl who would never run away,’ the distressed mother said.
