A man is being questioned by police after a body was found in an apartment block carpark on Sydney’s northern beaches.

The discovery was made after emergency services were called to Ilikai Place, Dee Why, at 7.11am on Monday following a report from a member of the public.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command found the man, aged 40,  dead at the scene.

Police have set up a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

At 12.30pm today, a 37-year-old man was taken away for questioning following the discovery. He has been taken to Manly Police Station and is assisting with inquiries.

The man, who was wearing a green hoodie, was walked to a police car, escorted to Manly Police Station and is assisting police with inquiries.

A neighbour described seeing a black hatchback approaching the unit complex multiple times before 5am on Monday morning.

A next-door neighbour of the dead man told Daily Mail the unit complex was generally a quiet place to live.

‘I didn’t hear or see anything, it’s usually a pretty quiet building,’ local resident Kassan said.

‘It’s a very, very scary thing to happen. I’ve lived in the building eight months and found out about it when the police arrived this morning.’

A number of tactical police units, riot squad officers and ambulance paramedics remained at the cul-de-sac on Monday morning with plain-clothed detectives seen speaking to local residents.

It is understood the man’s body is still inside the apartment complex car park.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.

This is a breaking story. More to come
