Sir Rod Stewart was slated by Dancing On Ice viewers during Sunday’s episode of the show. 

The 79-year-old singer and his piano playing pal Jools Holland, 66, appeared on the show to promote their 13-track collaboration record Swing Fever, which was released on Friday.

The pair took to the stage to sing their cover of Billie Holiday’s 1936 song Pennies from Heaven.

But the performance left may viewers unimpressed and they took to social media to express their views. 

One person wrote on Twitter: ‘I’ve a soft spot for Rod Stewart but this is as bad as tonight’s judges scoring.’

While someone else offered: ‘Rod Stewart looks like a grandad trying to rock the mic at a wedding reception.’

Another person remarked: ‘Don’t sing, Rod. It sounds baaad,’ while someone else exclaimed: ‘My ears are bleeding!’

Another viewer pleaded: ‘Call it a day, Rod son.’

While someone else wrote: ‘Think it’s time for Rod Stewart to retire.’ 

Sharing some more positive words, another viewer wrote: ‘I loved Rod Stewart on Dancing On Ice.’

While someone else shared: ‘Rod Stewart was the most entertaining thing of the whole show.’

Another fan posted: ‘WOW such a brilliant performance from the legendary Sir Rod Stewart and also Jools Holland! Massive well done to you both!’

English ski jumper and Olympian, 60, and his professional skating partner Vicky Ogden found himself in the skate-off against former Love Island star Amber Davies and her pro partner Simon Proulx-Senecal.

After Eddie and Vicky performed a graceful routine to Sir Elton John’s Rocket Man, and Amber and her partner Simon danced a dramatic performance to Little Mix’s Power, the judges cast their vote.

Judge Oti Mabuse voted to keep Eddie while guest judge Johnny Weir and Jayne Torvill voted for Amber.

As the vote was split, it came down to head judge Christopher Dean, who opted to keep Amber as well, sending Eddie packing.

Sunday’s show saw the contestants up their game in the hope of making it to the semi-final next week, with a number of performers claiming the highest score title throughout the night until Adele Roberts came out on top at the end.

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards – who recently spoke about living in his car and eating from bins while competing in the Olympics – opened this week’s Dancing On Ice by embracing his inner pop star as he skated to One Direction’s hit What Makes You Beautiful.

Dressed in a black and red checked shirt, the former Olympic ski jumper performed a rotating knee slide and twirls with his partner Vicky to secure a score of 33.5 – his highest of the series.

Judge Oti Mabuse thought it was a ‘brilliant’ way to open the show as she felt it was ‘entertaining’.

After a night of top marks, radio DJ Adele, 44, received 39 out of 40 points for her elegant routine with her partner Mark Hanretty to You’re My World by Jane McDonald.

She became emotional after getting the score as Mark praised her as an ‘incredible’ woman.

The former Big Brother housemate previously said she decided to compete the ITV show because she has her ‘life back’ after undergoing treatment for bowel cancer and announcing in June 2022 that she was cancer-free.

Judge Christopher said the routine had ‘everything I want to see in a performance’ including ‘passion’ and ‘connection’ between the pair.

Judge Oti complimented it as ‘fun and cheeky’ while Christopher praised former Coronation Street star Ryan for attempting rotational lifts, which he said a lot of other male contestants were not attempting.

Judge Christopher Dean praised the pair as the ‘ones to beat right now’ as he complimented them for giving the audience ‘diverse skating’ each week.

He encouraged Nazaire to work on his expression to secure a perfect 10 from him.

Fellow judge Oti Mabuse said their dancing was like ‘a beautiful song’, while Jayne Torvill added that she ‘loved that he keeps introducing new lifts’.

The Dancing On Ice semi-final airs on Sunday 3 March at 6.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
