The turkey is in the oven, the lights on the tree are twinkling, and the drinks will at some point be flowing as used gift wrap lays scattered on the floor.

Politics will be the last thing on the minds of most Americans this Christmas.

But when the decorations are taken down and the holidays draw to a close, the nation will be bracing for a brutal 11 months of campaigning before the general election.

In 21 days, the focus will shift from carols to caucuses as the Republican candidates descend on Iowa in the battle for the 2024 presidential nomination.

Millions will be seeking answers to questions about which candidate they think is best for the job. Can they fix the economy? Can they tackle the border? Will they keep us safe from national security threats?

The polls have tackled many of these issues and revealed how well voters believe Republicans and Democrats can deal with each.

But one crucial (albeit festive) attribute hasn’t been considered: Would it be better to have a Joe Biden or Donald Trump Christmas?

DailyMail.com has the answers.

American voters have given their verdict on whether they would rather have a Joe Biden or Donald Trump-based Christmas

American voters have given their verdict on whether they would rather have a Joe Biden or Donald Trump-based Christmas

The majority of Americans would rather spend Christmas with Trump, according to a DailyMail.com poll that covered a wide range of topics.

The survey of 1,000 voters conducted by J.L. Partners showed voters would prefer Trump to be involved in many aspects of the festivities, including making Christmas dinner, choosing the family movie and giving gifts.

The Donald, known as an entertainer and for his DJ skills and with his palatial Mar-a-Lago estate, is considered the better host.

Voters also gravitated to him being a guest, with 47 percent saying they would invite him round to their house.

Regarding Biden, Americans see the 81-year-old grandfather as more neighborly than his potential 2024 rival and would trust him to look after their house if they left for the holiday.

In general, Biden’s polls have been disastrous in recent months and have raised repeated questions about his prospects in 2024.

An end-of-year tally gave him the lowest approval of any modern-day president, even fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter.

The latest tracking number from Gallup, published Friday, puts Biden’s job approval rating at 39 percent, up two points from lows in October and November.

That is worse than the last seven presidents in history as they ended their third year in power.

DailyMail.com’s Christmas poll was also broken down by party affiliation.

Unsurprisingly, Republican voters overwhelmingly said they would rather have Trump involved in their plans, while Democrats wanted Biden for every occasion.

The results were more mixed when asked who belongs on Santa’s naughty and nice list.

Trump was the pick for the top of both, potentially alluding to his multiple criminal indictments and his dominance in the polls in the Republican primary.

36 percent of Democrats put Trump top of their naughty list with fellow Republican primary rival Ron DeSantis in second with 6 percent.

Almost half of Republicans (47 percent) believed that Biden was most deserving of a lump of coal this year, ahead of Hillary Clinton in second with 10 percent.

Joe Alder, Senior Research Associate at J.L. Partners, said: ‘These results reflect what we know are strengths and weaknesses in the Donald Trump and Joe Biden brands.

‘Trump is seen by many as vigorous, vital and funny – making it unsurprising that he is the average American’s pick as a Christmas guest.

‘For better and worse, he is also seen as rich – the successful man of commerce – which likely explains the public’s 14-point preference for Trump over Biden as the man to give them a gift this Christmas.

‘However, whereas Trump can be seen as corrupt and unscrupulous, Biden’s persona is rather more neighborly.

‘That is why it is Biden, not Trump, whom Americans say they would trust to look after their house if they were out.

‘In other words, how the public view these leaders at Christmas reveals how they understand their characters: the boisterous businessman and twinkly grandfather’.
