The Critics Choice Awards 2024 kicked off in Los Angeles tonight with a glittering star-studded red carpet that saw some of the biggest names in Hollywood putting on their most fashionable display.
However, in typical awards season fashion, the red carpet was also littered with several rather baffling sartorial fails – from trashy, overly revealing gowns to quirky accessories, including a mini model of Godzilla.
Billie Eilish is known for pushing the boundaries of fashion, but on Sunday night, she turned heads for all the wrong reasons in a bizarre layered ensemble that featured a black corseted dress worn over a floor-length long-sleeved white collared shirt.
Adding yet another rather odd element to her look, she wore a pair of tiny sunglasses over her eyes as she stared down the photographers.
Actress Julianne Moore suffered a very rare fashion fail in a crumpled purple strapless dress that appeared as though it had been stuffed into a bag prior to her red carpet appearance – and was in desperate need of a steam.

Actress Ashley Madekwe was one of the many stars who missed the style mark at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards in her jester-style dress that looked more suited to a circus than a red carpet
The Office star Melora Hardin missed the mark entirely in a leopard-print suit, which she paired with a white tuxedo-style shirt that was left gaping open at the chest to reveal a rather saucy criss-cross bra and plenty of cleavage
Producer Perri Nemirof wore a pair of bizarrely voluminous black pants that could well have housed three other people for the evening – pairing them with some tacky glittering suspenders
Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan made her appearance on the red carpet in a trashy lace frock that would have been better suited to the Moulin Rouge than a celebrity awards event
British actress Ashley Madekwe was one of the many stars who missed the style mark at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards in her jester-style dress that looked more suited to a circus than a red carpet. The strapless mini dress featured a yellow and lilac pattern across it, while the plunging neckline was embellished with vibrant pink-and-silver detailing to draw maximum attention to her chest.

Black and white was a popular color choice for the evening, particularly when it came to those stars whose fashion choices flopped spectacularly on the red carpet – including producer Perri Nemirof, who wore a pair of bizarrely voluminous black pants that could well have housed three other people for the evening.
She paired the over-the-top trousers with a white textured tank top and glittering suspenders, looking somewhat like an extra from a bad nineties music video instead of a guest at one of the most high-profile Hollywood events of the years.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig sported an enormous white dress that looked as though she had tucked several wrinkled bed sheets under a long white T-shirt and did little to conjure the glamour that is usually expected of this kind of event – particularly its nominees.
Actress Bel Powley also chose an over-the-top white dress which, thanks in large part to the addition of the bow tie, left her looking somewhat like a ring leader at a circus.

Two other stars who flopped in their voluminous white ensembles were Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (left) and Saltburn star Alison Oliver (right)
Awkwafina’s dress was akin to something from a Victorian period movie – and looked very out of place on the red carpet
The Millionaire Matchmaker host Patti Stanger looked less like a million bucks in her cheap-looking silver dress that featured an over-the-top slit in addition to a cut-out on her torso
Sunglasses were required when looking at performance poet Tazbah Chavez’s neon green sequin dress
Two other attendees joined them in missing the style mark entirely in an all-white look – Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and Saltburn star Alison Oliver.
Amy opted for a long robe-style dress that completely engulfed her slim frame and she took the quirkiness of her look one step further with the addition of a white fedora-style hat with a collection of flowers adoring the brim, completing the ensemble with a rather garish sequined handbag.
Meanwhile Alison – who has been shot to fame in recent weeks after starring alongside Jacob Elordi in the shocking movie Saltburn – was a world away from her on-screen siren character in a toga-style strapless dress that did little to flatter her figure.
However there were some who opted for a much more vibrant color palette, including performance poet Tazbah Chavez, whose over-the-top neon green sequin dress very nearly required those around her to put on sunglasses for fear of injuring their eyes.
The creative even went as far as to add a matching nail polish color on her toes, adding even more oomph to the already-disastrous ensemble.

Another guest guilty of daring to bare too much on the red carpet was Keltie Knight, who donned a red lace skirt that left her black underwear on full display – while also blending rather oddly into the carpet beneath her feet
Actress Dolly Lewis (left) and British-French nominee Billie Boullet (right) both sported very unflattering black lace gowns
Turning to accessories, Japanese filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki made the rather odd choice to carry a mini model of what appeared to be Godzilla with him on the red carpet
Yamazaki added a pair of claw-embellished shoes to his look for good measure
Several men landed themselves on the worst dressed list thanks to their very poor choice of suits – including Dan Levy (left), Colman Domingo (center) and Chris Perfetti (right)

Sticking with the carpet-matching ensembles, Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan made her appearance on the red carpet in a trashy lace frock that would have been better suited to the Moulin Rouge than a celebrity awards event.
The lacy design had a very short hemline in the front, along with a sweeping train of ruffly fabric that did little to add any elegance to the look.
