Courtney Stodden shared more details about just how close she allegedly came to suicide in the wake of a brutal social media campaign against her involving stars including Chrissy Teigen in a new special.
In a trailer for the ABC News documentary IMPACT x Nightline: Confessions of a Child Bride, the 30-year-old reality star said she was driven to the point of writing a suicide note as she faced an onslaught of online abuse following her marriage at just 16 to the actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time.
Although she faced a wave of harassment by numerous accounts, both famous and not, it was Tiegen’s post that particularly stuck out, including some in which she explicitly hoped for Stodden’s death.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Teigen’s representative for comment.
Stodden — who is nonbinary and uses she/her and they/them pronouns interchangeably — has previously called out Teigen’s vicious posts, prompting the 39-year-old model to apologize privately and publicly for the posts in 2021.
Among the posts highlighted in the trailer was one from 2012, in which Teigen, 39, wrote ‘i hate you’ in response to one of Stodden’s posts.

The 30-year-old reality star said she was driven to the point of writing a suicide note as she faced an onslaught of online abuse, most famously from Chrissy Teigen, 39, following her marriage at just 16 to the actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time; seen March 2 in Beverly Hills
An even more shocking post came from a few months earlier in 2011, when the wife of John Legend tweeted directly at Stodden: ‘.@CourtneyStodden my Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmmmmm baby.’

‘And I know she’s saying it was from alcohol, or whatever she’s saying it was from…’ Stodden began, apparently referring to Teigen’s announcement in 2022 that she had quit drinking, though she doesn’t appear to have ever tied alcohol to her social media posts.
‘Saying this to a child when you’re the queen of Twitter… it was so much,’ she continued.
‘I did actually almost succeed at committing suicide because of —’ Stodden began, before changing course.
‘That was a huge part of it,’ she added.
‘I had a suicide letter written. I remember my last thought was, “Maybe I don’t deserve to be here when people that high up are telling me I don’t deserve to be,”‘ they continued.
Teigen subsequently apologized for her posts about and to Courtney in 2021, but only after they had resurfaced.
At the time, she admitted to losing multiple brand partnerships over the controversy, and she took a hiatus from social media.

Teigen later apologized publicly and privately for her posts after they resurfaced in 2021

She said at the time that she had lost several brand partnerships as a result of the controversy; seen March 12 in NYC
‘I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be,’ Teigen tweeted at the time. ‘I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior.
‘I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.’
Teigen added: ‘And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.’
Elsewhere in the trailer, Stodden commented on her marriage to Hutchison from 2011 until their 2017 separation.
She filed for divorce the following year, and it was finalized in 2020.
During their marriage, Hutchison was widely labeled a ‘pedophile’ and a ‘groomer’ by observers, though he denied those claims.
He also has said that his marriage to the teen caused a rift with his family and left his agent to drop him as a client.
One infamous interview clip, in which a teenage Stodden was heavily made up and seemed to tilt her head as if in a daze at time, came up in the conversation with Stodden.

‘You know what’s funny, I was sober, and I was hoping you were going to ask this question, because I’ve always wanted to be asked this for 10 years. But I was completely sober,’ she claimed. ‘But after that interview, I wasn’t sober anymore,’ Stodden added ominously

Following her divorce from Hutchison, Stodden announced in 2021 that she had gotten engaged to her longtime boyfriend Chris Sheng, but she announced two years later that the two had ended their engagement and split

Later in 2023, she began dating the producer and director Jared Safier, 42. She revealed they had gotten engaged in June 2024, and in December she married Safier 13 years after her first marriage to Hutchison
The social media star was asked if she had been on drugs when she filmed the interview, which surprisingly brought a smile to her face.
