Sheryl Crow had country music fans in a tizzy on Friday when she posted a video of her Tesla car getting towed away as part of her protest against Elon Musk.
‘My parents always said… you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla,’ she captioned the video.
‘Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.’
In the video, Crow appeared to be standing in her long driveway with green cargo pants and a black jacket.
She smugly waved goodbye at her Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned car brand, and smiled at the camera as it was towed away.
The video had several commenters slamming her as ‘elitist.’ One comment read, ‘You are such an elite. Extremely disappointed in your stance. You obviously don’t care about the American people. Oh well, good luck with your career.’
‘How can people be against Trump and Musk? If you are against them, than you are against freedom of speech, government efficiency, homeland security and America first politics. It is sad that it seems that you are against all these dear Sheryl Crow,’ another person wrote.
‘You loved Elon when he donated to Dems. Now that he’s uncovering fraud and waste on a grand scale that is mind-boggling, you’re all full of virtue signaling. Oh, we’re so impressed,’ a third agreed.

Crow rose to fame in the 1990s with hits like ‘If It Makes You Happy,’ ‘The First Cut Is the Deepest,’ and ‘Soak Up the Sun.’
She’s set to perform at the Boston Calling Festival in May and recently opened for Pink after pulling out of Zach Bryan’s tour.
Crow’s decision to donate the money from her Tesla to NPR comes after Brendan Carr, the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, ordered an investigation into the publication’s sponsorship practices in January.
Carr claimed that NPR was allegedly crossing ‘the line into prohibited commercial s,’ according to a letter he sent to the publication’s chief executive Katherine Maher.
Maher released a statement on January 30 that NPR’s programming complied with federal regulations, and was confident that an investigation would confirm it.

Musk has also come under fire for reports that Tesla has a $400 million contract from the US State Department for ‘Armored Teslas.’
SpaceX and Tesla have received a combined $18 billion in federal contracts since 2015, a fact that has made his critics question whether his governmental position is a conflict of interest.
Musk responded to the claim in the Oval Office by telling reporters, ‘If you see any contract where it was awarded to SpaceX and it wasn’t by far the best value for the taxpayer, let me know – because every one of them was.’
While Musk has maintained that his position isn’t a conflict of interest, employees at the Department of Government Efficiency have continued to implement massive cuts to multiple federal agencies including the Department of Education and the Internal Revenue Service.
