The son of a cop has admitted to killing a 43-year-old mother by ploughing into her with his pickup truck after nine hours of drinking.
Jacob Andrew Moore struck Lisa Mancuso close to Seventh Avenue and Cloud Road in New River, Arizona, as she was jogging along the shoulder on February 24, 2024.
The 22-year-old pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter and leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident, according to Arizona Family.
He is set to be sentenced to four years in prison plus restitution fees as part of a plea deal at his next hearing on June 10.
On the day of the fatal collision, Moore had been drinking from 11pm until at least 8am, according to court documents. He struck Mancuso at around 10am.
Moore, who was 20 at the time, returned to the scene shortly afterwards, but made a U-turn and sped away when he was confronted by witnesses.
While Manusco lay dying at the scene, police say Moore drove to his home in Phoenix, parked his truck somewhere out of the ordinary, and went to sleep.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office released a surveillance photo of the pickup truck the following day.
Meanwhile, Moore’s father, a Phoenix police officer, called the office and told them his son may have been involved. Moore turned himself in on March 18, 2024.
Mancuso, who was born in Illinois and lived in Phoenix, left behind her husband Stephen and their son, Brayden, according to her obituary.
‘A proud graduate of DeVry University, Lisa’s commitment to her education was a testament to her belief in the power of knowledge and self-improvement,’ the obituary reads.
‘Her gentle spirit and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
‘She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, most deeply felt by her husband, Stephen, and their son, Brayden, who were the center of her world.’
The tragedy comes after a law graduate allegedly fatally struck biker Daniel O’Neil, 73, with her car on the campus of MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 21.
Shocking videos showed Suffolk Law grad Lauren Mullins, 32, raging at police in the moments after she was arrested for other alleged drunken crimes.
Records show she has been detained across several states for assault, resisting arrest, speeding, and disorderly conduct dating back to 2014.
Disturbing police bodycam footage of her most recent arrest before the Massachusetts crash shows her frenzied reaction as cops tried to detain her in New Jersey on January 31.
The clip begins with Mullins claiming she’d had ‘two drinks’, before screaming ‘you’re a f***ing idiot’ at an officer who said he could smell alcohol on her breath.
Boston native Mullins became increasingly aggressive towards the cop. When he asked her name, she replied, ‘Lauren,’ before threatening him with her law school credentials.
‘Your name is, I have a degree and I will f***ing destroy you,’ she yelled at the officer while swaying and slurring her words.
But her demeanor was very different in court in late March as it dawned on her that outbursts like this have destroyed her own chances of climbing the legal ladder.
Mullins now faces up to 20 years behind bars if convicted of vehicular homicide.
