Commuters are set for rush-hour chaos on Monday morning, as two major rail companies have warned that signalling faults will spark huge delays.

Southern Rail and Thameslink, who operate services from the south east into London, said no trains will be running on either of their lines.

Commuters travelling from Sussex, Surrey or Kent, will find their journeys severely disrupted and services to Gatwick Airport have been affected.

But trains are still running between Brighton, Hastings and Eastbourne. Network Rail is examining the track and will be providing updates.

A spokesperson for Southern Rail said: Due to a major signalling fault across the whole Southern Network, no trains will be running until further notice.

‘Do not travel on any Southern route until further notice.

‘We are currently monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as possible.’

Thameslink issued the same message.
