A man in his 50s has been stabbed to death at a large house party in an affluent northern Brisbane suburb, with a 15-year-old in custody and charged with murder

Police swooped on a home at Oriel Road in Clayfield at about 8.15pm on Thursday, after they were called about a man sustaining critical injuries.

A 58-year-old man was found unresponsive upstairs in the large three-storey home where there were roughly 30 young people.

A crime scene was established and the group of teenagers have assisted police with their inquiries.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman said an altercation took place between the 15-year-old and the 58-year-old man who are believed to be known to each other.

It is alleged a household implement was used.

‘There was some sort of altercation that’s resulted in this 58-year-old male tragically, losing his life,’ he said.

‘It’s not a case of carrying knives, it’s unfortunately allotted in a home.’

Police found the 15-year-old boy near the home and took him into custody.

Following investigations, detectives have since charged the teenager with one count of murder domestic violence offence.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Childrens Court on Friday.

The scene that officers arrived to has been described by Inspector Jane Healy as ‘confronting’, she told Channel 7’s Sunrise.

‘It was quite a confusing and confronting scene when police arrived,’ she said.

‘We are still establishing a timeline of what has happened.’

Police have appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
