A child and adult are reported to have been killed during a knife attack in Germany, with multiple others wounded, according to local media.
The violent attack was carried out at around 11.45am local time in a park in the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg, BILD reports.
Three adults and a child were attacked, police said, with two of the victims succumbing to their injuries.
A man was arrested at the scene and is in detention, said police, who added that there are no other suspects.
The motive for the attack remains unclear and police have asked that people refrain from speculation.
There is no further danger to the public, a police spokesperson said.
Police and ambulances were pictured near the scene in Schöntal Park, Aschaffenburg
Investigators earlier said that two people had been provisionally arrested.
They later shared an update that the second person was a witness and was being questioned.
A large area was cordoned off covering Schöntal Park, police said, and rail traffic in the area was temporarily suspended.
The suspect is believed to have tried to escape by running across nearby railway tracks, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.
In November, police classified parts of the city centre park as a ‘dangerous place’.
There were reported to be regular patrols of the area, which is potentially why the suspect was apprehended so quickly.
Police have asked for witnesses to come forward and share any relevant pictures or videos.
