A top liberal lawmaker is issuing a stern warning to Democrats about the importance of turning out to vote if they want to see Vice President Kamala Harris beat Donald Trump.
It comes down to making sure that voters don’t continue to suffer from a common problem that could derail the election outcome for liberals.
Freshman Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., who represents a district about 15 minutes from downtown Chicago, is celebrating the ‘joy and momentum’ behind Harris, but is worried about voter turnout in November.
‘I represent the most progressive district in the entire U.S.,’ she said at an event hosted by the American Association of Political Consultants during DNC week.
She said the Democrats in her district are ‘definitely not voting for Trump,’ but they want to see an agenda that will ‘deliver for them.’
‘I’m going to say something that you probably don’t want to hear, but damn it, I’m the progressive Latina that got elected 20 months ago, and I’m just going to have to keep going to have to keep it real with you,’ she went on at the event attended by DailyMail.com.
‘We shouldn’t be here. We shouldn’t be at a position right now where Donald Trump can be the President of United States of America.’
The liberal lawmaker said that the key to getting Kamala Harris elected will be giving Americans ‘something to vote for,’ not just against.
She warned that ‘apathy has been winning elections for a very long time,’ and that ‘negative campaigning’ is to blame.
‘I find that every time you see so much money spent in negative campaigning, it actually drops voter turnout instead of increasing it.’
Ramirez said that the fact that she continues to ‘fight’ with her cousins about Kamala and whether they are are in a ‘better position’ today than they were four years ago is extremely concerning.
‘We have a short memory. There’s a lot of short memory loss in constituencies,’ Ramirez stated.
‘The fact that folks don’t feel like urgent to vote, I think, reminds us of what to give people something to vote for, and there’s excitement, and it has to translate.’
Oprah Winfrey issued a similar warning on Wednesday night of the DNC, urging Independents like herself to turn out for Harris.
She said she remained a political ‘independent’ but asked Independents and undecided voters to back Harris.
‘We are beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and foolery,’ she said, comments clearly aimed at Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. ‘These are complicated times, and they require adult conversations.’
In response, the Trump War Room X account posted a doting letter Winfrey had penned to Trump in the year 2000.
‘Donald,’ the 24-year-old note said. ‘I received the book excerpt. I have to tell you, your comments made me a little weepy.’
‘It’s one thing to try and live a life of integrity – still another to have people like yourself notice,’ Winfrey said. ‘Too bad we’re not running for office, what a team!’
While Trump had long talked about at some point jumping into politics, Winfrey stayed sidelined until the 2008 cycle when she endorsed then Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential run against a number of more seasoned Democrats, including then Sen. Hillary Clinton.
