Charlamagne tha God slammed President Biden’s gleeful reaction to Donald Trump’s election victory following months of branding the Republican a ‘threat to Democracy’ and comparing him to Adolf Hitler.
‘I just don’t understand the White House visit,’ the radio host, real name Lenard McKelvey, 46, said Thursday on his show ‘The Breakfast Club’.
‘Now granted, you know, I’m glad it’s a peaceful transition of power, but what happened to the ‘threat of democracy’ talk? What happened to the ‘fascist’ talk?’ he said.
Charlamagne admitted that he himself was guilty of fearmongering about Trump’s candidacy, and he sparked backlash last week after questioning ‘how much Democrats really believed’ their Trump rhetoric despite using it frequently himself.
‘But I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about his political opponents, like President Biden,’ he continued on Thursday. ‘When they say it, it holds way more weight than me.
‘I’m just trying to figure out how do you go from ‘he’s an existential threat to democracy’, to ‘welcome back,” he concluded.
The radio host’s remark drew backlash from conservatives who branded him a hypocrite for parroting the same talking points during the election, with one saying he ‘just realized he’s been a useful idiot for the Democrats.’
After Charlamagne questioned Biden’s decision to invite Trump to the White House, his co-host DJ Envy noted that Biden looked particularly happy during the meeting.
‘He was happy too,’ he said. ‘He was smiling, he was grinning, he was cheesing.’
Observers have also brought up Biden’s upbeat reaction to Trump’s victory in his first address to the nation the day after the election, where he wore a large smile on his face while admitting the Democrats lost handily.
‘I just don’t understand how,’ Charlamagne responded. ‘I understand President Biden believes in political norms, but damn.’
He concluded that the situation left him so confused he was ‘gonna stop minding white people’s business.’
Charlamagne was branded a hypocrite by critics after his remarks, with one X user saying he was trying to ‘play innocent bystanders’ after taking part in the inflammatory rhetoric himself.
‘He can play the ‘what happened’ game all he wants… Charlamagne was all about the Harris situation the entire time.’
‘That’s not ‘just politics”, said another. ‘It’s called fearmongering.’
Charlamagne tha God and his Breakfast Club co-hosts are far from the only people to point out Biden’s surprisingly happy attitude post-election.
Podcaster Joe Rogan, who sat down with President-elect Donald Trump during the election cycle, said on his show this week that after watching Biden’s reaction, he ‘guarantees’ Biden voted for Trump.
‘Biden voted for Trump, I guarantee it. I never saw that dude so happy in his life. He lost, his party lost, [and] he was happy,’ Rogan said on his show.
Hundreds of MAGA supporters thought the same, with footage of the meeting becoming a popular discussion point on social media as it happened.
‘When Obama had to shake hands with Trump and do the whole transition thing, Obama looked like (he was saying) ‘Jesus Christ,” Rogan continued.
Rogan repeated the theory that Biden felt so betrayed by being talked out of running for reelection after his disastrous date performance, that he wanted Harris to lose.
‘Look at his (Biden’s) f**king smile, dude. That’s like when your kid gets married… That motherf**ker’s never been more happy in his life.
‘He’s like, that b***h [Kamala]. She went down. You can’t tell me he wasn’t happy. Like when he put that MAGA hat on and he took it with him on the plane.
‘That motherf**ker was happy. He had a giant smile on his face. He said, “Welcome back” to him.’
