Daily Mail understands he was in an on-again, off-again relationship with psychologist Jo Mooney (nee Leidreiter).

The couple were both long-time residents of the beachside suburb but were not believed to be living together at the time of his death.

He is survived by two adult daughters, Juni and Zaza, who are based in Byron Bay and have followed in his artistic footsteps.
