The BBC Breakfast weather presenter, 61, tied the knot on Wednesday, but her nuptials were shared with viewers in a post on X on Friday.
She said: ‘It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding. We are both so incredibly happy.’
In snaps from their big day, Carol stunned in an off-the-shoulder gown with a dramatic skirt as she posed for snaps with her husband Steve.
She wrote on social media: ‘Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. We had the most perfect day.
‘It was a tiny wedding but so romantic and intimate. A day we will never forget. We are bursting with happiness. It wasn’t a ”secret” wedding, just a private one.’

The BBC weather presenter tied the knot in Buckinghamshire on Wednesday, but first announced her nuptials to viewers during BBC Breakfast on Friday
Among those to offer their congratulations was former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, who shared a snap of the happy couple on Instagram.
He captioned the post: ‘Congratulations to Carol and Steve. Steve is one very fortunate gentlemen and Carol is the best of us all.
‘She is kind, caring, brilliant at her job and a wonderful person to be around. I wish them every happiness in their new life together.’
Steph McGovern commented: ‘How gorgeous and happy do Carol and Steve look? Congratulations. So pleased for you both’.
Carol previously confessed she planned to wed Steve in secret before ‘[telling] everyone later.’
Whilst speaking to an audience at Good Housekeeping Live, she admitted that she should ‘get on with it’, adding: ‘I imagine we are just going to go and do it and tell everyone about it later.’
‘Steve came into my life when I was already very happy, I didn’t need a man in my life – but I want him in my life – and that’s the difference.’
Carol had previously shared that she and Steve were hoping for an ‘intimate’ wedding, telling The Mirror: ‘We’re very happy and we’re loved up, and we’re delighted to be together but we haven’t got a wedding date yet.
The couple first announced their engagement in May 2022, with Carol proudly showing off her diamond ring at the Chelsea Flower Show
Taking to X to share more snaps from her big day, Carol wrote: ‘Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. We had the most perfect day’
Carol has been a fixture on BBC Breakfast’s weather segment since 1998
Carol was married to ex-cricketer Jimmy Kirkwood for 18 years until they split in 2008
‘I think we’ll have an intimate wedding, we don’t want to just squeeze it in, we want it to be a celebration.’
In a recent interview with Prima, Carol revealed she feels ‘no pressure whatsoever’ about her looks.
‘I’m just into my 60s, but I think the positive is that you care less what people think of you. You hear people’s opinions, but you don’t take them on board as much as when you’re younger,’ she said.
Despite her nonchalance towards her appearance, the presenter revealed that her New Year resolutions are typically focused on physical health, along with much of the population.
‘My resolutions are always the same – the first one is to get fit and the second one is to lose weight,’ she said.
Carol added: ‘I fail by the second day of January on both. There’s always so much leftover food. And then I’m going to start again on Monday – but I never do!’
The presenter started out her career as the BBC’s secretarial reserve in London. After a series of internal moves, she covered presenting slots and BBC Radio Scotland, and then BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4.
After marrying Jimmy, Carol left the BBC to work in recruitment, but rejoined the BBC in 1993 as a freelance presenter, during which time she also presented a bi-monthly programme Talking Issues for HTV West.
Three years later, the BBC Breakfast star joined The Weather Channel, but after it closed down she underwent training under the guidance of the BBC at the Met Office, before joining BBC News in April 1998 as a weather presenter
She has since appeared regularly across all of BBC Weather’s output on both radio and television and is the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast.
In December 2022, Carol sparked speculation that she and Steve had already tied the knot.
Carol sent fans into a spin during BBC Breakfast, with some wondering if she has swapped her engagement ring for a new diamond wedding band.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: ‘Am I seeing things or has Carol switched rings on #BBCBreakfast?’
While another added: ‘Morning Carol, have you got married in secret ?? I noticed another ring on your finger this morning, have a great Christmas xx’
A third fan of the show chimed: ‘I think I see it, it looks more sparkly/bigger than her engagement ring if I’m correct? Either way, congrats Carol!’
In May 2022, Carol revealed live on BBC Breakfast that she and Steve had got engaged.
The star was reporting from the Chelsea Flower Show at the time when her co-host Sally Nugent jokingly voiced some ‘concern’ for her pal after spotting a ring on her engagement finger.
She said: ‘I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol!’
Peering down at her hand, Carol replied: ‘Oh, that one? Thank you Sal! It is rather nice, I got engaged.’
Sally responded to the happy news by offering a ‘congratulations’ on behalf of the entire team, before getting permission to ‘confirm to the nation’.
She said: ‘Yes! I think you just have, Sal. Yes, I got engaged. We got engaged when we were on holiday. So it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled, so thank you!’
BBC Breakfast co-host Jon Kay added: ‘We’re all thrilled, we’re all so chuffed for you Carol, on behalf of all the team here and everybody watching, I’m sure. Absolutely delighted.
‘Are you looking for a spot for the marquee while you’re at Chelsea, yeah?’
Carol replied: ‘I’m taking note of all the flowers, Jon. But no, there’s no plans in fruit yet.’
Carol opened up further about how Steve popped the question during an interview with Hello magazine in July last year, where she also confirmed his first name, saying: ‘It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by.
‘I turned to say, ”What’s wrong?” He was on his knee, and he proposed. At first, I thought he was joking, but he said, ”No no, I really do mean it, Will you marry me?” I said: ”Yes!! Of course!” Aw.’
Carol also revealed she had known Steve before they started dating, adding: ‘I met Steve in my 50s; we were friends before we were romantically linked.
‘He is funny, gorgeous and, also, he is really kind, thoughtful and romantic.’
In June 2021, Carol first revealed that she was in a relationship with someone, describing him as the ‘best thing that’s ever happened to me’.
The star hadn’t revealed Steve’s last name, but recently told Prima Magazine he was ‘always making me laugh’, and she described him as ‘extremely handsome’.
She said: ‘I don’t want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he’s always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well.
‘He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses.
‘He is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt.’
In August last year during an interview with The Times, Carol told how she celebrated her 60th birthday with Mr Randall with a romantic trip to Venice.
She also beamed about how the pair wanted to go on a road trip in a camper van.
The couple went public in February 2023 by attending the star-studded Radio Times Covers Party held at Claridge’s in London, igniting further questions about who Ms Kirkwood was pictured with.
Hampshire-based Randall split from his wife of 12 years Nichola Randall, and mother of their teenage son, in 2017.
His ex-partner posted a message on her Facebook page in June that year suggesting unrest between the couple, it read: ‘And’s now it’s time for me,’ which was met with supportive comments from pals, including one who replied: ‘It’s about time!’
The couple live together in Carol’s £2million home in a gated community in Berkshire, on the banks of the Thames. They are believed to have moved in together last year.
One resident of the complex told : ‘Steve’s a great bloke, very friendly and easy to talk to. You don’t see him and Carol out and about that much but when you do, they like walking along the Thames.
‘He was visiting Carol all the time and then moved in last year. They’re both very down to earth and make a lovely couple.’
Another resident said: ‘Steve and Carol are very popular members of this community. You sometimes see them walking around and it’s obvious that they’re both very happy.
‘They’ve always got time for a chat with us and we’re all really happy for them.’
The presenter was previously married to cricket player Jimmy Kirkwood, but the pair split in 2008 after 18 years of marriage.
Carol previously spoke about her divorce in an interview with the Radio Times.

Carol competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 alongside Pasha Kovalev
The weather presenter had married Jimmy in 1990, but parted ways in 2008. Their divorce was finalised in 2012.
‘I found myself when I got divorced. I started to do things and to think, ‘I’m not going to say no, I’m going to say yes.
‘I’m braver now. I’ve flown with the Red Arrows, jumped out of planes with the Red Devils.’
Following her divorce, Carol went on to star in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 with her dance partner Pasha Kovalev, and spoke about her love life after the demise of her marriage.
‘I was married for a long time, and I got married quite young, so it’s nice doing things I have the freedom to do now, if I want to go out to the theatre or go out with friends for dinner, I’ve got that freedom,’ she said.
‘Nobody has been setting me up on ‘Strictly’ and I’m not doing any online dating or anything. Sometimes you do get invited out by viewers but I don’t know these people that are writing emails to me saying ”Let’s go to dinner.” ‘
She added: ‘I’m very flattered that anybody would be bothered to do that but I don’t know who they are so I’m not tempted to follow them up.’
‘I absolutely believe in marriage – if you’re married to the person who is your soulmate and the person who you want to spend the rest of your life with.’
Writing in The Daily Mail in 2021, Carol added that divorce has helped her to overcome her ‘scaredy-cat habits.’
She said: ‘I had a happy upbringing in Inverness-shire. Because there were so many of us (I’m number six of eight) I learnt to share at an early age, a useful lesson for life. It made me realise how lucky I now am with what I have and what I do — and particularly so since my divorce.
‘I used to be a scaredy-cat. I wouldn’t have gone hang-gliding or flown with the Red Arrows, both of which I did after splitting from my ex-husband.
‘Now, my attitude is why not? What’s holding you back? Pride. You’re frightened of making a fool of yourself. Get over it.’
In an interview with Weekend Magazine in 2021, Carol admitted she always wanted to start a family with her first husband Jimmy.
She said: ‘Oh, very much. I’d wanted to be a mum since I was a child. We tried everything we could, but it just never happened and no one could tell us why.’
‘It’s not easy breaking up with your husband, of course, especially if you have a public profile.
‘I still had to be sunny Carol on-screen. It was all so shocking to me. I’d come off-air, go to the Ladies, have a good cry and then reapply my eye make-up before stepping in front of the cameras again.
‘In a funny way though, that helped with the healing process. I put my grief into a compartment which I kept separate from my work, otherwise I’d have ended up in a puddle of tears. Work kept me going.’
